I think this is really a horses for courses thing. My favourite was a 1992 FIAT 1100 Special, my 2nd Car, with an Abarth engine It was the 1st car in the country with reclining bucket seats & I won’t expand on that. It went like stink as well, could better 90 easily.
I was also very fond of a Renault 8 Gordini that I had. Back in the 60s it could break 100 mph.
Although I have had well over 30 cars the 2 best were 2 Citroen CX GTI.s I had in the early & late 80,s. I was doing around 45,000 mls a year at the time & I have never before or since gotton out of a car fresher at the end of a 450 ml round trip. Their ability to cover mls on Irish roads with minimal steering input, no crosswind deviation & track straight as an arrow was amazing.
They would,nt even deviate if they got a blow out.. & the braking & stability under hard braking was incredible. I,m quite sure they saved my life a few time,s
The seating comfort was also superb as was the driving position.

BMW M3 Racecar round Brandshatch earlier this year. Then Tiff Needel took me for a couple laps afterwards. Most fun I’ve ever had with my clothes on! :-)

Also did the Single seater experience at Silverstone last year. Highly recommended!

Never done a track day in a properly set-up car, but currently really enjoying my 2009 Audi RS6. Cannot imagine anything faster in a straight line.

Well I’ve only ever driven three different cars :P

My least favourite was the Hyundai I10 – loud, uncomfortable, awful radio, clutch far too sensitive

The Toyota Yaris I quite liked, but my favourite is my little V-reg Vauxhall Corsa :D It feels so much better than the other two, even though it is 10 years older :D Especially the suspension :P

Did a Ferrari 355 day at thruxton around 2 years ago, which including the 355, I drove a Porsche Caymen and an old Formula Renault single-seater. Loved it, and would do something similar again.

As for cars ive owned, best is probably my current Leon 150FR, never had a turbo’d car before this and frankly i cant imagine not having one now. For sheer lunacy and fun its brilliant. My previous car, Hyundai Coupe was fun too, but despite being a 2liter engine (140bhp) it was really too weak as all the power was too far up the revs (which i dislike in a petrol) which was a shame as it has had an amazing chassis/suspension. If it had a meaty V6 (and i dont mean the V6 engine models engine, which isnt great either) and a FR power setup, it could have been amazing.

I work at a mechanic shop and over here in the US most people drive pickups (atleast in the South where I am) or family cars like Honda Accords. But there is one guy who, every once in awhile, brings in a 2001 Mustang SVT Cobra R. I’ve never actually driven it, but you can tell its got some “oomph” just from driving it into the shop. However, my sister-in-law has a 2008 Mustang GT and i’ve driven it and been thoroughly impressed especially with its straight line speed.

Annoyingly my car driving history is pretty tame. I’ve never driven a true exotic but I have driven plenty of saloons and a few random sports cars. I guess that the best indication of what I deem to be the ‘best’ cars are the ones I’ve actually bought. I’m an absolute tight-arse so I spend months researching and test driving before I buy any car. So, my current cars (and therefore what I consider to be the best cars for me) are:

Rover 75 CDTi: Unbelievably comfortable cruiser with loads of gadgets and fantastic fuel economy.

Porsche 944 (1984): Tactile and raw as you’d expect a car designed in the 70′s to be. Lighter and more agile than the later ‘fatter’ 944s. It’s not especially quick, but the noise and sensations you get make it feel like a super car!

@Porkapie, a former work collegue of mine used to own a 944, and was highly complementry about it, citing its 50/50 weight distribution as being a wonder.

Yeah, personally I think they’re one of the best kept secrets of the sports car world. Because they’re “not a real porsche” (apparently) nobody wants them so the prices are criminally cheap. That’s a good thing for me though!
