Sound highly improbable? Well, today, obviously you’d be very hard pressed to get drivers from each series competing together. But in older times it appears it was not so unthinkable. There was once a series called IROC (International Race of Champions) that I recall watching back in the 90′s. At that time it was sadly mostly American drivers rather than a truly international series. But I discovered it once lived up to it’s name in the 70′s. Whilst scouring youtube, I happened to come across the 1978 finale which was held at Daytona. The race included the likes of Richard Petty, Dale Waltrip, Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx, Al Unser and Gordon Johncock (and would have even had Gunnar Nilsson except that he was sick at the time) all together at once on the high banked oval. Such a strange combination seems like a bit of a treasure worth sharing here.

Wow I would love to see that happen again but I guess legislation would have something against that :

There’s of course the Race of Champions, but it’s not quite the same.
