The 2nd host city for the 2014 Formula E championship was announced today with Rome set to host a race around the streets of the city. This got me thinking about potential circuit layouts…
The layout used in Gran Turismo 5 could work quite well (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5751673). It passes the Colosseum, the Circus Maximus and the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II, which would provide a fantastic backdrop to the race. However, the circuit may be too narrow to produce exciting races and there appears to be a lack of serious overtaking opportunities
Over to you!
I think we’re gonna have some licence issues though…
@andae23 I’d demolish the Colosseum to build a state-of-the-art pit complex & hospitality suite. The main grandstand could be built on its ancient foundations, just to keep some of that history & heritage.
“However, the circuit may be too narrow to produce exciting races and there appears to be a lack of serious overtaking opportunities”
I don’t care about overtaking. Monaco, for example, is a great race and overtaking is almost impossible.
This one is a modified version of the GT5 circuit: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5751785
@andae23 Not very. I don’t think a 159-lap race would be ‘awesome’.
@andae23 Actually I’m not sure how long Formula E races will be, but that’s still far too short and unrealistic.
Wouldn’t they just use the idea that they laid out for F1 a while back?
Nobody should be forced to race on that.
@keithcollantine Indeed that’s the one.
Ideally it’ll be on the original Gran Turismo Rome circuit, not that rubbish GT5 version. here in yellow:
‘rubbish GT5 version’
