Here’s a remarkable bit of race footage I hadn’t seen before – it’s from a Japanese Touring Car Championship race at Tsukuba in 1994 which probably should have been red-flagged a bit sooner…
Steve Soper was trying to pass the race leader when his BMW aquaplaned and the pair crashed. Another car then piled into Soper stationary 3-Series and once he’d got out his car was slammed again – and then caught fire.
Safety standards back then weren’t what they are today. Oh, and the whole thing is topped off with some excellent commentary.
