On the left hand side, reminds me of the jet engine on an MD-83

What is it for?

I’ve always wondered that too. However, I think RIISE’s explanation is too boring. It’s clearly a missile launcher, and it’ll be coming to F1 soon if Ecclestone gets his way

It looks a little daft to be honest.

Its a miniture jet engine. Rather then take the KERs route of overtaking aids, F3 descided to employ mini Jets to their cars, which offer a 4second boost that can be employed 5 times in the race with unrestricted rules on where it can be used.

Its quite hazzardus in wet races i hear.

I am leaning towards RIISE’s suggestion… But I remember reading somewhere that every car must have the same sized hole on that “missile” thing so they can’t gain a power advantage over their rivals.
