A Polish blog run by a close friend of Kubica confirms that he will start at this weekend’s Ronde Gomitolo di Lana rally :). Although it doesn’t mention whether the car will be ready (as Autosport suggest might be an issue), but it’s a reliable source when it comes to news about Kubica so if it says he’ll start this weekend that probably means he will.

Just to back up what was said already, he will be contesting at the Ronde Gomitolo di Lana rally, but if they cannot get his Subaru Impreza ready for this weekend, he will start in the Rally San Martino di Castrozza. Here is the Autosport article:

Mikołaj Sokół said on facebook that the Subaru is in a good shape and really fast, so the car is not the problem anymore. We are awaiting reports from the rally itself.

He said the target is to return to F1 in 2014, but he doesn’t know if he’s able to do that.

It’s crazy that we don’t hear more from the guy through official channels. I’d love to see him in a rally car.

We do now, there are two interviews with him on the web, from today. One for Skysport in Italian and the other for TVN24 in Polish

Now nobody can deny he’s back.

Awww! he looks all happy and smiley. Seriously, though I’m very impressed that he’s back rallying.

He’s leading the rally with 11 s gap over the second driver after the first stage.

Kubica has won the rally with a time of 23’32.9, winning all four stages and ending up almost a minute ahead of the team in second place which finished with a time of 24’31.7.

Needless to say this rally didn’t include the toughest competition for an ex-F1 driver, but still, I’d say it’s good news.

And here is some champagne spraying. Robert also confirmed he’s going to compete in a Italy Championship Rally next week.

Thanks for sharing @cyclops_PL Those articles translate quite well into English. It’s great to see and hear from him again. He’s going about about a possible return with a lot of maturity. We will be very fortunate to have him back.

I’m very happy to see that those horrible things that happened to him didn’t really change him. He’s always been very mature and realistic person. Now that he started to communicate with the media himself will will have much clearer picture of what’s happening with him. If something didn’t come from his mouth, it didn’t happen. From what we’ve seen in the media coverage from this particular rally, his hand in its current state makes it impossible to return to F1 now (largely limited mobility of the elbow and wrist, limited hand grip strength, contracture of muscles in fingers). It remains to be seen how much he can improve, yet competitive rallying seems to be his worst case scenario. I’m eagerly waiting to see him compete in WRC with the big guns. Today’s rally was, as he said, a part of the rehabilitation process with a touch of fun.

His right arm looks rather rigid in this video:
