    1) Massa stays at Ferrari for 2013.
    2) Perez replaces him the following year.
    3) Sauber need a new driver, so they give Kubica a test as he’s familiar with the team already.
    4) ????
    5) PROFIT

So wonderful to see Kubica win!!! This and Zanardi’s medals in London are two of the feel good stories of the year!

Maybe it’s just the tarmac talking but that’s incredibly smooth driving from Kubica there. A lot of confidence, nice one.

This weekend Kubica takes part in San Martino di Castrozza rally, which is also a round of Italian Rally Championship. So I guess it will be harder this time ;). He already put his car in a ditch during a test round but it wasn’t anything serious, and the car should be ready for this evening’s first round. Thumbs up!

Just wanted to add he’ll be again driving Subaru Impreza WRC S12B, with co-pilot Jakub Gerber – the same man who was his pilot during his accident a year and a half ago.

He crashed, and as it should have been a year and a half ago, he and the co-driver are perfectly fine… Kubica was running 4th with a 25s gap to the leaders which were at 12 min 35 sec. So quite a significant gap then, but apparently he spun on one of the stages.

Video interview with him (in Italian):

The following source (http://powrotroberta.blogspot.com/2012/09/bardzo-obszerny-wywiad-z-sami-wiecie-kim.html) which contains a translated interview conducted by omnicorse.it, suggests that during the Ford test Kubica was quicker than Latvala. Considering it was only a test and test times do not necessarily mean much, maybe there isn’t a lot to get excited about, but even though Kubica has had a life’s worth of experience of track racing whereas Latvala hasn’t necessarily, I find this rather exciting. If it’s true, and if we believe that it was Kubica’s first (or one of the first) proper appearance in a racing car since his crash, the guy doesn’t seem to have lost much, if any, pace. As long as he’s physically alright, his head seems to be completely intact.

On a side-note, in the interview he also mentions that before his accident in 2011 he he had reached an agreement with Ford to develop their car on tarmac. He says that ‘larger starts were also under consideration’.

Finally, he voices his hatred of the DRS!

Edit: I don’t know whether this is the website of F1Kate (http://www.f1katewalker.com/1/post/2012/09/kubica-back-racing-at-last.html), but it confirms the story. I also don’t know whether her source would be reliable, but I used to follow her on Twitter during testing and she seemed to provide fantastic insight at the time. @keithcollantine you would probably know whether it’s her?

Apparently he’s told Autosprint he wants to do a full season of competition next year. Translation via Autosport:

Meanwhile Kubica continues his “rehabilitation” by destroying the rest of the field in Rallye du Var. After SS 8 he has over 4 minute lead.

If he’s still not fully recovered and yet he’s humiliating the competition, I think a future in the WRC is not too far from the realms of possibility.

Robert remains cautious, but if F1 will be impossible, then WRC seems to be the best competitve route for him. He said that if he will end up in WRC then he won’t expect success at the beggining and he will take 2-3 years for learning alone.

SS 9, 48 seconds ahead of the second quickest crew. Over 5 minute lead in overall standings. If nothing unexpected happens the rally is as good as won for him.

So, apparently, Kubica crashed at the penultimate stage of the Rally du Var. Polish media reports that the cause for the accident was a co-driver’s mistake, which resulted with their Citroen going into the corner way faster than supposed to. The car had hit a tree, rolled and caught fire, but nobody was hurt.

For now I can only provide polish language sources.
