Day 1 was full of surprises and drama with Loeb going out, Latvala parking on a rock and Solberg smashing the underside of his car through a ditch. That leaves just Hirvonen to bag his first (legitimate) win providing he doesn’t push too hard but with a +1 minute lead you’d like to think he’d keep a lid on it and I expect he will.
Good news for VW and Ogier with their first stage win yesterday. 7s clear of the nearest WRC car (Novikov). This was the first stage win for a Super 2000 car against the top flight WRC cars.
