Jose Maria Lopez could be virtually assured of a third consecutive WTCC crown if rumours about the penultimate round in Thailand being cancelled turn out to be true.

The event at the Buriram circuit, which was run for the first time last year, may be cancelled due to a problem with the promoter:

With just three other double-header weekends remaining at Motegi, Shanghai and Losail, the potential number of points available could fall from 220 to 165. Lopez currently leads the standings by 117 points over Tiago Monterio, so he is already capable of winning the title next time out in Japan.
