Depending on how heavy the rain was they could suspend the race and instruct the drivers to line up in their grid slots to give them all a chance to change tyres.

I think I’ve found a photo that shows what the teams mean when they say that the Pirelli tyres reach a point where the “fall off a cliff”…

Firstly, glad to hear that you’re okay.

Secondly, glad to hear that things in your country seem to be reaching an Endgame and hopefully the Grand Prix can go ahead as planned.

I think in some regards Bahrain has suffered from happening at the same time as the events in Libya (which are far far worse even than anything reported in Bahrain). It’s almost like some media outlets have said “terrible things happening in Libya, so the event sin Bahrain must be similar” when they’re clearly not. I also think that, as usual, it’s the vocal minority who make their voice heard, whilst the silent majority aren’t able to make themselves heard above the noise.

I’d also like to add something regarding the ambulances “not being allowed in”. I’m a First Aider for St John Ambulance and we work closely with our NHS Ambulance services and the first thing they teach you is not to put yourself in harms way. This was the same reason that Emergency Services were initially held back in the aftermath of the July 7th bombing a few years ago in London (which they were criticised for). I suspect it would be the same in Bahrain and so it wasn’t that they weren’t being allowed in, it was that they were waiting until they could ensure that the crews weren’t going to become casualties themselves – which, no matter how bad the situation, is IMHO the right thing to do.

I don’t care any more either way.

I like what Tony Fernandes and his team have managed to achieve in such a short time-frame, but I do think he’s dragging out the whole Lotus naming row a bit too much and trying a bit too hard to be liked which is putting some people off.

On the other hand I have to admire the honesty of Gerard Lopez who points out what I agree is probably the real reason TF is being so stubborn – if they change the team name now they lose their FOM money. He also admits that this is why they are happy to stay as Renault and that he was a Lotus fan as a child.

Of the 2 liveries, I prefer the Team Lotus green & yellow, though I am warming to the Renault black & gold each time I see it.

I’ll be supporting McLaren anyway so it doesn’t really matter too much – just so long as we have a full grid.

Well in the spirit of their “How hard can it be” mantra when it comes to building their own cars etc…

There’s a guy over on F1 Technical who’s bought a Honda RA107 minus the engine and is now trying to return it to running order.

What I think would make for a good Top Gear Challenge would be for them to buy an F1 car in the same state and try to get it back up and running…

I’m impressed by the maths of some of these suggestions – I think 1 person has 7 WDC titles being won in the next 4 seasons…lol!!

    Easy…”Fernando is faster than you”

Not because I approve of what Ferrari did – I don’t.

But because of the way Rob Smedley made it abundantly clear to anyone listening (ie the world!!) that he didn’t agree with the decision.

I am by no means an expert, but I believe it all has to do with allowing better airflow to the underfloor and rear end…

And far from causing lift, I think the designers are actually able to design the raised nose in such a way that it actually produces downforce…

@Calum – while I’d like to see Lotus Cars do well, I don’t like that they’re essentially moving away from the philosophy that has always been there of a simple car that handles well.

Sure, build the Esprit, Europa et al, but why move the Elise away from what it is now??

I don’t think he’ll show any more bias towards RBR in his new role than Brundle showed towards DC in the same role when DC was still racing and MB was his manager…

On the A63 on the way from Leeds to my parents’ house there’s an ellongated roadabout that on a quiet day you can “bus-stop”:

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=ls12+2er&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=14.410453,43.286133&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Leeds+LS12+2ER,+United+Kingdom&ll=53.780277,-1.481835&spn=0.001756,0.007328&t=h&z=18

There’s also a lovely stretch of road further on the way that whilst not resembling any particular stretch of GP track is amazing fun to drive along…

Brilliant!! Shame they couldn’t change Webber’s helmet to Mansell’s as well though…

Am I the only person who doesn’t want to see a grid full of the liveries of yesteryear?
