So Lotus cuts Ocon and takes on Jorda and Fong as development drivers… money talks is all I can make of that one.

Very interesting interview with Alex Lynn on Autosport – sounds like Ocon was in at DAMS at one point but that fell through for some reason, which is how Lynn got it.

So Marciello is switching to Trident… I’m sure I’d heard he was staying with Racing Engineering so that’s something of a surprise. Hopefully the deadwood in the decent cars doesn’t mean talent like this gets stuck with the less-capable machinery. Maybe a RE seat for Ocon then?

  • Ah yes, that does make more sense.

  • What a performance for Mardenborough this weekend. After Silverstone he’s clearly learnt from that experience, and drove a very patient race yesterday to get the reverse grid pole. So glad it paid off.

  • If only Sorensen had replaced De Jong instead of Ellinas, eh?

  • Really wasn’t expecting to see Rossi at another team this weekend, but I guess that more or less seals it as to whether he jumped or was pushed. If this effectively means Dillmann replaces Sato though then I’m all for it. Now what can we do about Izawa, Binder and De Jong… Also LOL at the tags on this thread.

  • GP2 supersub Tom Dillmann steps in for Rossi at Hockenheim. Should be fun.

    Indeed. ^_^

  • Alex Rossi has parted company with Caterham, and will not be racing for them in GP2 at Hockenheim. The statement from him is rather positive, talking about considerable experience in F1 machinery during his time at Caterham meaning he is now ready for ‘the next step’. While that might seem a little dubious, the mention of Haas in the last lines of…[Read more]

De Jong is the son of the team owner IIRC, so he’s in on a technicality. He’s no worse than Binder, I guess, considering the latter’s experience and what should be a decent car.

  • Mardenborough still needs to find that consistency, it seems. He was far too scrappy on the first lap today, chasing the previous mistake rather than holding on to what he has. In a series where overtaking is so tough, losing multiple places on the first lap is suicide. He just needs to find a comfortable 9/10ths and a way to drive every corner…[Read more]

You would assume telemetry would show an engine being down on power, but then it didn’t exactly help Abt last year – not until they started posting the telemetry comparison to Calado online, anyway… Of course the team were on his side there, whereas Hilmer say everything Regalia is claiming has no basis in truth. Regalia also mentioned that…[Read more]

Yeah, the tweet from Regalia about lack of funds doesn’t tally with his complaints about the team’s performance and his engine, nor the team’s assertion that he has a contract for the whole season. If Hilmer’s engines are duff though then Daniel Abt would surely feel cursed, having spent all last year convinced his ART was noticeably down on power…[Read more]

Nasr’s only in his third seasons though and had way more championships than any of the other three you mentioned before hitting GP2. I thought all of last year that he should already be in F1 – and he came awfully close with the likes of Toro Rosso, Williams, Lotus, and (where I thought he should be already) Marussia. He was the second-to-last…

As far as Nasr, Cecotto, Coletti and Valsecchi go, I think anyone who takes four years to win the championship, never mind a race, is always going to fall under the banner of monkeys, typewriters and Shakespeare – give them long enough, and it’ll happen. Cecotto also hasn’t helped himself with his antics in the past. Palmer will surely also be in…[Read more]

If she can’t get into British F3 this year then there’s really no hope, seeing as they’re struggling to get more than 10 cars on the grid anyway. Agreed that on performance she deserves the GP3 seat more than most female racers, but sadly performance is very much secondary these days.

Hey. =) New season, gotta come to the best place I know for GP2/GP3 discussion.

Carmen Jorda still being there I can only assume is some kind of joke. As for Cullen, he’s clearly out of his depth and should have done something in between British Formula Ford and GP3, if only to learn some of the European tracks.

Looks like Daly is bulkier from driving the indycar and this doesn’t help when they have lowered the GP2 weight limit by 2kg, which is somewhat odd given it’s a spec series continuing with the same car as last year…

The weight limit change was because they’re running new batteries which are 4kg lighter, so still 2kg less than last year overall.
