Welcome to F1. A large part of it is an engineering competition, that’s what makes it cool.
However, as others have said, Hamilton potentially winning 4 titles with Mercedes does not tell the whole story. Just like Schumacher winning 5 with Ferrari and Vettel winning 4 with Red Bull, there were some seasons of domination (2002, 2013, 2015) but other seasons where they won while another team had a comparably good car (2003, 2010, 2017).
It’s nonsense to dismiss Hamilton as a midfield driver when he has beaten Vettel several times this season with a weaker car on the day. See Azerbaijan, Germany, Hungary (thanks to a brilliant wet Q performance), and Italy for races that Hamilton has won without having the best car.

There is so much activity there that it is hard to keep up with, so definitely worth joining if you are interested in the series.

This was long overdue.
Also the discord channel is a great idea, will definitely help conversation stay alive!
23rd December 2017, 22:54 at 10:54 pm #357480Adam BlockerParticipantReading and enjoying. Thanks for putting them together @holmqvist.
A few interesting things for me:
1. How tight the battle between the Ingram drivers was, idk how it will be decided who drives next season.
2. The FIRST driver battle and the fact that the only driver to out qualify his teammate every race was dropped. Zozulya did fair pretty well in the races though.
3. How much Hoskins beat Beyer by. That really cements for me that Hoskins is one of the best on the grid.7th December 2017, 22:00 at 10:00 pm #357311Adam BlockerParticipantBest driver of 2017: Tumo Kinnumen. Super consistent all season with few mistakes besides the last couple of races.
Worst driver of 2017: James Harding. Thoroughly outclassed by Wagner in basically every session.
Most exciting race of the season: A toss-up between China, Germany, and Brazil.
Most boring race of the season: Portugal
Compared to my ambitions: My goal for FIRST was P6 in the constructors’. Some of you guys probably scoffed at that, but we actually went one better and finished P5.

That race was absolutely incredible. Action from start to finish and an incredible finish in the championship. Literally every time Bradley and Harry just got their breath back something else happened! Insane.
Congrats to Nathaniel Powers on the drivers’ championship, I think he deserved it a bit more than KvS. Well deserved.
I really thought Zozulya was going to win that race there at the end, he had a real shot at it. He did an absolutely brilliant race starting from 16th (!!) and finishing 2nd. Drive of the season for a FIRST driver IMO. He also put himself in Formula Virtual history as the driver to deny KvS a championship :).
Also a big shout out to Arden Hutchinson for a great drive in his final race for us. He definitely has proven that he deserves another seat in FV. He led a significant portion of that race and did brilliantly to outperform Ruiz on the same tire strategy in a car that has been slower on the balance of the season.
It was also nice to confirm ourselves as the best of the new teams again. Thanks for the awesome fight @theawesomefish and @holmqvist. I think all of us surprised the rest of the field this season to say the least. I know my own team’s performances have shocked me! I’ll be ready to make it three in a row on you guys next season.
Also a huge thanks to @robocat for hosting this series. Without you, an awesome race like the one we just had (as well as an awesome season) would not be possible.
3rd December 2017, 3:02 at 3:02 am #357144Adam BlockerParticipantHalvosen 4th, that’s insane. Good quali from Hutchinson, definitely proving he deserves a seat in FV. A bit disappointed with Zozulya there, but I think he will be strong in the race.
30th November 2017, 23:46 at 11:46 pm #357101Adam BlockerParticipantFelix Perez with the FV2 championship! That’s encouraging for FIRST in FV next year. Thanks to @bradley13 for running the junior series yet again.
28th November 2017, 13:11 at 1:11 pm #356958Adam BlockerParticipantAlso I can’t wait to find out whether Felix Perez won the FV2 championship or not!
28th November 2017, 13:04 at 1:04 pm #356957Adam BlockerParticipantGreat result for FIRST, that should be enough to ensure that we finish ahead of North Star. We got a bit fortunate as a result of others having problems, but I will definitely take it.
Also, with Westwood not scoring points and ending their long points scoring streak, FIRST now has the longest active points scoring streak! I had to say it while I can. Going along with that, this is only the second season in history where no team has scored in every race of the season. Westwood (Mexico), Downton (Malaysia), and FIRST (Australia) all have one non-points scoring result.
It was good to see AMR score a point having finished 11th four times since their last points score.
Who will win the drivers championship out of van Snelheid and Powers?
van Snelheid. Powers has been slightly stronger all season but looking at the previous results this season, only 5 of the 17 results would be enough for Powers to win the title if they were to happen again in Brazil. I could easily see van Snelheid make a mistake and throw it away though.Who will finish third in the WCC out of Westwood and Franklin?
Franklin. They have slightly more pace than Westwood IMO, but they’ve had more inconsistency. If they put a good race together they can easily make up 7 points.Who will win the battle for sixth between North Star and Holmqvist?
North Star. They have been strong in recent races and would have scored a good points haul in Mexico but for Beckenbauer’s engine failure.Who will win finish 10th out of Meteor, Ingram, FUN, and Ocelot?
Meteor. They are already in 10th and they have been the strongest of these teams lately, with Halvosen having a sniff of points a few times.25th November 2017, 15:59 at 3:59 pm #356576Adam BlockerParticipantAnother great qualifying from Hutchinson, he definitely deserves a seat somewhere for next season because of performances like that. Our pace seems to be level with North Star here, but we have chosen different with them using Softs and us using Mediums. Should be interesting. In fact, Hutchinson is the first car on the grid using the Medium tires, so a really good result is possible if that strategy is the best.
22nd November 2017, 14:56 at 2:56 pm #356272Adam BlockerParticipantCongrats to Alex on his entry to the series, an obvious choice.
Also a lot of interesting future changes to ponder from @robocat
