As I recall one time there was Kubica’s string of passes in Singapore nominated so I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t nominate Hamilton vs Rosberg
F1 2013 for PS3 plus Logitech wireless steering wheel. Had some of the best racing on my console so far.
Situation in Poland doesn’t look promising either. Polsat – the oldest commercial tv station is not interested in renewing its rights to air F1 (after Kubica’s accident the number of viewers dropped drastically, currently below 1 million per race). This basically leaves state owned TVP and NC+ (co-owned by Canal + Group and ITI Neovision). Neither of them expressed interest. TVP already put a lot of money into several big events including last years EURO 2012 and 2014 Winter Olympic Games. They also seem to focus on rallying (which is understandable when you think about Kubica’s turn to WRC). NC+ has a very broad offer of sport coverage, including top football leagues, NBA, Polish football league and UEFA Champions League. The downside is – if they get F1 they will surely air on subscription based paid channels.
It’s obvious equal treatment throughout the whole season is impossible. It’s rather a question of giving a driver better treatment from the very beginning, be default. It’s also the question how these inequalities are handled. It’s ok to treat drivers evenly up to a point when one is clearly in front and deserves to have the full potential of the team put to his car. But the other man deserves to hear it straight to his face and thoroughly explained how this will be done. Imagine Horner saying to Webber “Listen Mark, you are significantly behind Seb in WDC, you had your chances, and now we need to focus our efforts on the leading car. You will be getting upgrades a bit late and we will ask you to help Seb on track.”
It would also be good to establish ground rules at the beginning of the season up to which point drivers are treated equally. Be it half way through the season or when the gap in WDC is larger than 40 pts, doesn’t matter. What matters is to have such rules clearly established so none of the parties involved would have valid reasons to be upset and throw tantrums with glasses during press conferences.
Getting back to the main question: I think Ricciardo is in a difficult position. Being paired with triple World Champion means he actually needs to deserve his equal treatment. Giving Seb no 1 status is self-explanatory here. On the other hand, how on earth can Ricciardo prove he’s worth equal footing, if he’s given inferior equipment and less effort from the team? I think he will end up as forever-number-two. The Felipe Massa of Red Bull.
Retaining Grosjean is already a risk. Adding to him another inexperienced driver is madness. As Massa seems to be struggling again It would a good place for him. Also I wouldn’t mind seeing Kobayashi back on the grid. However, Kovalainen would be my dream come true.
I hope that the demo version will tell us whether the performance issues on PS3 were resolved this year. I still can’t play 2011 for more than 20 minutes without going berserk about the frame rate.
I tend to put myself against Team Lotus and not for Lotus Renault. The former is just a tremendous PR stunt which lead many fans to the brink of madness and pure hatred towards the other party. The latter would be well off without the Lotus sticker and I accept it just because it means more money for creating a winning car for Kubica. As for the whole “who’s real” thing I still say: neither, but Fernandes is more cynical and misleading. He reminds me a populist politician who’s just playing on emotions, not facts, in order to complete his purely material goals.
