Mixed feelings over that. The opening laps whilst it was dry were fun (although I took a while to stop running onto the grass in braking zones..had a few spins early on like that, sorry for any collateral damage) but once the rain came down I got confused. The dry tyres wouldn’t keep any heat, but Mag said we wouldn’t need wets so I carried on. As the rain got heavier though the dry tyres became harder to drive, so I tried the inters. They were grippier, but much slower. The rain got heavier so I tried full wets, which were hopeless. Went back to the slicks which were the fastest but now quite tricky to drive because the front tyres stayed stone cold and it just understeered everywhere. Was thoroughly fed up so I cranked up the TC, switched on the ASM and n00bed it to the end. I think if you’re going to have wet races, have proper grip levels. The field properly spread out as it rained and slightly spoiled it for me, would have preferred if it was completely dry.

The second half of the race was pretty good though. Had some great battles with Bob and Spud and I was trying to beat them with strategy but they were just plain faster and both were ahead of me on the final lap. Then Spud crashed at Indianapolis and Bob span at the final chicane and I snuck through to take a cheeky 4th. Shame Mag had to leave cos he’d have been right in there too. Thanks guys for waiting for a couple of little taps that were had, very fair and good racing with you guys :)

Hate to end on a downer but I’m disappointed with the conduct of a certain racer. Not naming names but I was knocked off a couple of times by them (one costing me 20 or 30 seconds and depriving me of a fight with any other cars for most of the race) caused by them gong for overly ambitious and aggressive moves into corners where you simply cant overtake. I wasn’t waited for, let back through or anything. I also witnessed several examples of corner cutting and I’m disappointed at this typical public lobby attitude.

Congrats to Chops for dominating and to our podium finishers. Many thanks to Mag for organising a fun event, and I’m happy to have beaten the combination of real racing driver/fake Launcestonian ;)

I gifted it to him outright. And Alex, you’re not borrowing it, it’s yours to keep!

    Really looking forward to this!

    Room for one more? :D

    In – DanThorn – Peugeot 905 Race Car ’92

By the way, when it comes to shared cars they can’t be used online. People can borrow them for use in single player GT mode but won’t be able to use them in an online lobby, unfortunately.

Woah! Car Wars is on YouTube! I must have watched that video to death when I was a kid.

“Apparently, cochon is the French word for pig!”

“And the award for best Oscar goes to Crasher Laurrari”

I’m going to have a lot of fun re watching that later, thanks Keith!

GT Racing, no question. Big powerful cars with fat tyres and simple aerodynamics, a great sound and a real mix of cars and drivers. The idea of driving open wheelers has never appealed to me, too much emphasis on precision and small margins. The BTCC would be a huge laugh, but I expect I’d quickly get fed up of being punted off by Jason Plato every other race.

So, turns out I can race! That is, if there’s room, and if you’ll still have me…

…and if this bloody update installs in time, which, as it’s only done 1% in 3 minutes, isn’t looking promising :(

If so, I’ll be whipping out the old Bentley Speed 8 again.

Shame I can’t enter this year. Was great fun being egged on by my F1F audience!

    Good luck everyone!

Kobayashi on Button, and his pass on Rosberg. Great, last minute late braking stuff, the kind of thing we saw from him loads in 2010 but not so much of in 2011.

Hamilton’s pass on the Toro Rossos was very clever but the massive tyre advantage stops it from being the best of the race. Vettel made some nice passes to.

And not really a proper overtake, but Maldonado and Alonso at the start was good, hard, fair racing. Pastor left just enough room and tried to regain the lead on the outside, but backed off when he knew he was beat so as not to lose more places. Top stuff.

Oh I have no problem cooking with Parmesan, it’s great and adds extra depth of flavour, Im just saying I also enjoy it on it’s own as part of a cheese board, which it isn’t used enough for!

It’s hard to find Cornish Yarg outside of Cornwall (I live in Somerset now and it’s only just found it’s way into our supermarkets) but if you can find some, buy it, it’s delicious.

I actually like all cheese. It’s probably my favourite type of food!

Strong cheddar is amazing. Also like a strong Stilton or a creamy brie. Parmesan is great too – don’t just use it in cooking, scrape off a few flakes and enjoy it!

Without doubt the best cheese however is Cornish Yarg, and I’ll hear nothing to the contrary.

    …No.

If this is the only way we can keep Spa on the calendar for the time being I’m all for it. I’m not going to sign a petition asking the organisers to price themselves out of a Grand Prix altogether.

Worth remembering that in many races in the second half of the season Alonso and the team played the percentage game with the lead they’d built up in the first half of the season. We saw once the championship had been won that the Alonso-Renault combination was every bit as fast as the Raikkonen-McLaren combination, so I wouldn’t say Alonso was ‘gifted it’ at all. You cover situations like that in the disclaimer, so how you then draw the ‘definite’ conclusion I don’t know.

Also in the Japanese Grand Prix, Alonso was told to give a place back to Klien as it was thought he’d passed him illegally. He did so, but was then told he didn’t have to give it back. This cost him a lot of time (he was already several seconds down the road when he ‘had’ to give the place back) and without it he might have even won…

They’re good looking cars and the extra manufacturer makes the world of difference, but personally I’d have more interest if there were some non-German manufacturers as well. I’ve always seen it as a bit of a one dimensional series…
