DavidJH commented on the post, The pay driver debate needs to move on 3 months ago
The comparison to football is a little unfair. The fact is that F1 is about the performance of driver, team and machinery. It’s not just about individual raw talent. Indeed, this complexity is precisely what draws […]

DavidJH commented on the post, “I should have won ’86, he should have won ’87″ – Piquet and Mansell on their rivalry 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Piquet is a strange one. Relative to his remarkable success, he must be one of the least talked about drivers around. Perhaps it is different in Brazil — must be in fact if an ad campaign is being built around […]

DavidJH started the forum topic Experience of the grid in the group
F1 3 months, 4 weeks agoHas anyone got any statistics on the average experience of the grid (average number of GPs driven) at the start of each season? I ask because I suspect that 2013 must be one of the lowest for some time. Of course, […]

DavidJH commented on the post, Rubens Barrichello’s F1 career 8 months, 3 weeks ago
Michael might end up beating Rubens’s record, but I would say that Rubens finally has the edge over Michael in terms of performance. Seems to me that at this stage in their careers (300 races +) Rubens is quite […]

DavidJH commented on the post, Coulthard hits 300kph in Lincoln Tunnel demo run 9 months, 1 week ago
The remarkable thing to my mind is not that Ferrari have stuck with Massa long after it’s clear that he will never return to form. After all, he is a nice guy, they are a (relatively) loyal team, and there is also […]

DavidJH commented on the post, FIA set to ban Red Bull engine map 10 months ago
There’s a long running debate over whether Ferrari should persist with Massa, and I have chimed in with my views on other threads. It’s worth making the point, however, that this is not a matter of Ferrari either […]

DavidJH commented on the post, Maldonado and Kobayashi fined after incidents 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Clearly, Maldonado is an impetuous driver. For me, his aggression is too far over the line and untempered by any finesse. I’m not a fan (though I’m prepared to be converted should he mature). Having said that, you […]

DavidJH commented on the post, Vettel leads Hulkenberg in second practice 11 months ago
Well, not really. He let HAM at the start and pulled out a bit of a lead. Had he pitted earlier he could have won the race. Overall, HAM probably was a little faster, but it was marginal at best.

DavidJH commented on the post, Vettel leads Hulkenberg in second practice 11 months ago
Vettel looks very good for this race. The car is well suited to the track, he is on good form, and his previous history at Valencia is stunning. First double winner of the year.

DavidJH replied to the forum topic Who will be the first repeat winner? in the group
F1 11 months, 1 week agoGot to be either Vettel, or a little less probably Hamilton. Would love it to be jumbo but Seb looks good for Valencia. If we are to have an eighth this year Grosjean looks the man. Didn’t like him back in 2009, […]

Have only just come across this site following a post on another topic. Highly recommended: looks comprehensive and up to date.

DavidJH started the forum topic Most races for a team in the group
F1 11 months, 2 weeks agoCan anyone point me to a list, preferably online, of the drivers who have driven the most races for the same team? To be clear, the same driver could appear on the list more than once, for example if he had a very […]

DavidJH commented on the post, Should Red Bull lose points over ‘illegal’ floor? 11 months, 3 weeks ago
I think this amounts to a rule change/clarification during the season. The points should be kept by the team, as the scrutineers passed the cars, but they will no longer be legal for subsequent races. This has […]

DavidJH replied to the forum topic Hamilton's reliability in the group
F1 11 months, 3 weeks agoAgree that he’s driving well this year. Before this year he seemed to be steadily getting worse, at least in the sense of making more errors. In 2007 he barely put a wheel wrong, remarkable for a rookie. 2008 and […]

DavidJH started the forum topic Hamilton's reliability in the group
F1 11 months, 3 weeks agoHe has a bit of a wayward, racer reputation, particularly when compared with his more stable teammate, but it’s interesting to note that — excluding drivers with only 10 or fewer races to their name — he has […]

DavidJH commented on the post, Schumacher fastest but Webber on pole in Monaco 12 months ago
On the pole position debate, this is one of those matters where there is a certain logic to both sides of the debate, but ultimately it is a matter of convention and definition: for the purposes of the record […]

DavidJH commented on the post, Who should Ferrari replace Felipe Massa with? 1 year ago
If this season had been more predictable so far I think Ferrari would simply stick with Massa and avoid having to buy out his contract. But with Alonso leading the championship even in supposedly a dog of a car, I […]

DavidJH commented on the post, DRS overtaking falls in first races of 2012 1 year ago
There’s a lot to be said on both sides of the DRS debate. I think it’s worth distinguishing between two sorts of criticism. One is that it’s a gimmick, by which most people seem to mean that it is ‘artificial,’ in […]

DavidJH commented on the post, Win-less champions, going to a race and hosting fees 1 year ago
It’s because there are more countries wanting to host a race than there are slots in the calendar. Lots of these places are oil or other commodity-rich places that want to either ‘put themselves on the map,’ […]

DavidJH commented on the post, Win-less champions, going to a race and hosting fees 1 year ago
Kiki Rosberg also holds the distinction of being the only driver to have failed to score a single point in the year before he won the championship. Indeed, Rosberg had only scored a total of 6 points in four […]
