    Hey gang,

Just wanted thank everyone for the fantastic info. My mission to Monaco went off without a hitch. It IS possible to leave Chicago at 4pm Saturday afternoon and be in your seat at Monaco two hours before the start of the race (I wouldn’t recommend such methods, but amazingly it worked).

I ended up taking Bus #23 from the Nice Aeroport to the St. Augustin train station. Only about a 3 minute ride, then a 3 minute walk up the hill to the station. Train was packed by 10-1030am, really had to squeeze in. There was no more room on the train by the third stop after St. Augustin.

After the race, the funneling of the crowd around the “back” entry of the Monaco train station was a bit chaotic. Waves upon waves would get held up by police as they let waves into the station slowly and orderly. If you have to leave in a hurry after the race and are a ways from the station, you may have to miss the last few laps in order to make your train.

The other two trains, from Ventimiglia and then Genova to Sestri Levante were not crowded. Plenty of room.

Unreal experience. Can’t believe I was there!

Thanks Dan! This is great info. With my train ticket in hand, hopefully I can avoid the long lines. The TER schedule indicated extra trains for GP weekend but I didn’t see evidence of them being so frequent (like you mentioned, 10 minute intervals).

All comes down to airport delays…. I get into Frankfurt at 7am, then into Nice by 10am.

Kudos to you on getting a balcony view! Wish I could swing that, but I have my race ticket as well. My budget is bursting at the seams before I even arrive!

    Many thanks Ed!

I’m arriving in Nice mid-morning on Sunday and getting to Monaco by the seat of my pants. I have both a TER train ticket (from St. Augustin station) and a bus ticket in case one looks better than the other. I should have about an hour or two to spare if everything goes smoothly. I’m thinking train. By mid-to-late morning, I fear traffic backups.

Unfortunately I can’t get there any sooner… It will be a minor miracle if I pull this off.

    Greetings everyone,

I’m coming into Monaco via bus from the Nice Aeroport the morning of the race. I was able to buy the bus ticket online in advance, however I figured I can switch to the train or taxi if for some reason the buses aren’t running.

After the race, I need to head to Sestri Levante, Italy (and meet up with the rest of the group I’m abandoning for the race!). While it seems possible to take the train from Monaco to Sestri Levante, I’m unable to book this trip online. Has anyone had any experiences with this route or something similar? Is there a chance that trains may be full and I’ll be stuck overnight?

This is an amazing forum. Thanks to all for contributing and thanks in advance to anyone that can offer up some advice.

    -David
