The ’79 French Grand Prix might not have been the best overall race (unless you were a Renault or turbo fan), but it might be the most exciting wheel-to-wheel multi-lap combat that F1 has ever seen!
Most of us didn’t care that Jean Pierre Jabouille was a mile ahead; even the French TV gave the Turbo Renault’s 1st win a passing mention before jumping back to the battle for 2nd between Giles Villenueve and Rene Arnoux.
