It’s pretty natural I think, most of us get a sense of where the teams are after one or two races and then re-adjust our expectations for them. I tend to wait for the first dry qualifying session of the European season before writing anyone off, but this season I’ve made my choices after Bahrain. I tend to agree, I have written off any chance of Ferrari challenging for a title this season. McLaren too if I’m honest. It is sad seeing as this season was meant to put the “motor” back in motorsport and Ferrari have historically been so strong on the engine side.

That start crash was ridiculous. I may be in the minority here, but I’m pinning the blame solely on Coronel. He just kept closing the gap, even after he made contact with Bennani. As for Bennani’s swerve to the right after Coronel began to spin, wouldn’t you have taken avoiding action if a car spun in front of you? There is nothing in any of the replays in the video above that suggests Bennani caused Coronel to spin.

I admit that I don’t follow the series as closely as I should, so I have no knowledge of whether Coronel or Bennani usually get into these sorts of incidents.

@claroline12 Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m going to be going this year too. It is a great event and when you do add it all up it is good value, particularly if you live in the UAE. I was just commenting on the fact that double points is being used as a means to entice people into buying tickets, rather than the additional off track stuff (like the concerts) as has been the norm for the last few years.

Completely agree about the year Lewis won, I was one of those happy fans too. :) Though the cheer when he retired in 2012 was louder I think…shows how fickle the attendees of the GP (I’m not calling them fans because most of them aren’t there for the F1).

I think it was a clever dodge by the tobacco companies. It has to do with the fact that they aren’t directly advertising cigarettes but the company which did various things, one of which happened to be making cigarettes. A tenuous argument I admit but it seemed to work, in Canada at least. I think this is also why Villeneuve’s CART car had “Player’s Ltd” on it, Players Ltd being the company which made JPS I believe.

Dunhill did it in golf for years too. In with the Duhill Cup becoming the “Alfred Dunhill Cup”. change the division, still advertise cigarettes.

The issue is that the cars that pass the safety car all still have to respect the safety car delta time. Once they get released they still have to trundle round to catch the pack. If they were allowed to get to the back of the pack a bit quicker, not at full racing speed but a bit quicker while taking it easy in the area of the track which is causing the trouble, it could cut down the time wasted behind the safety car.

Just FYI, in the pre-race build up the Arabic language Bein Sports ran an insert on the return of the Martini livery to motorsport. Oh, the irony.

Interesting that Alonso would have been against it, he looks to be carrying a few kilos more than people like Massa, Vettel, Rosberg and the slimline Hamilton.

So Singha is still on the Red Bull and Royal Challenge and Kingfisher premium are still on the Force India. Why make Williams repaint their car if the rule isn’t applied consistently?

This will have been incredibly worthless if the Singha and Johnnie Walker logos remain on the Red Bull and McLaren, the tequila logos remain on the Sauber and all of Kingfisher and Royal Challenge logos aren’t removed from the Force India.

Whoops, it is. A bit of a Freudian slip I think. ;)

I can’t seem to edit the OP, perhaps one of the mods could do it.

I have just received an email from Yas Marina Circuit notifying me that tickets are now on sale. This email uses the line “…the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be the final race of the season which means there are double points for the drivers and double the action for the fans.”

Ferrari also ran their Martini logo on the nose of their car in Bahrain in 2006.
