    Yeah Ocon and Perez is an interesting one. Pretty much every race they run together with Perez in front, but you have to ask yourself whether Perez should be expected to do better than that against someone in their first full season.

    Definitely seems to have lost a lot of (visual at least) weight compared to the current car, although no doubt some of that is down to the speedway aero. Looks like a proper piece of kit.

    There’s no way McLaren could afford to manufacture their own engines, you’re talking of adding hundreds of millions to their running costs to achieve something actual engine manufacturers are struggling with. They don’t even build their road car engines in-house.

    It’s not very high priority, but I’d be quite interested in a behind the scenes, journal-like article. Maybe cover some things that don’t make it into the well reported times/breakdowns/technical news. A collection of views on the coming season from other journos/paddock hangers-on would be interesting too, if they’re willing to give them!

    It would be cool to get some interviews with 3rd/junior drivers that are there too, see what they’re doing at the test and get their thoughts on their own coming seasons.

    The Daily Mail does occasionally have some decent essays between the horn blowing on the front and highly generic rear of the paper. However, their F1 reporter is a complete ass and if I never had to read anything by him again I’d be perfectly content.

    I wouldn’t say they were faster by the end of the season, but they’d certainly closed the gap significantly. The advantage obviously varied based on the circuit characteristics.

    2009 was dominated by aero though. The double diffuser was the big talking point which gave Brawn the advantage over Red Bull in the early races (Williams and Toyota had it too, but were useless as usual). Red Bull had a few tricks up their own sleeves too, which laid the course for the next four years…

    Logitechs are generally pretty reliable, yeah. I’m still using my old G25 (getting on for 10 years old now). The sensor on the sequential went a few years ago and the steering feels a bit loose but it’s still going.

    From the newer generation Thrustmaster seem to have pulled ahead design-wise, although Logitech pedals are probably still superior to the basic Thrustmaster ones. I can’t speak for the reliability, but I haven’t heard as much bad about them as @xtwl , although it might have been drowned out by all the complaints about Fanatec :P.

    If it’s your first wheel I think you’d be happy with either. If you could get the Thrustmaster with the upgraded pedals I would say that’s the best current budget option for competitive play.

    Great intro!

    The Levorg is a weird choice, emboldened by the (mild) success of the Civic Tourer I guess. Nice to see Subaru in the championship though.

    The Honda boys have to start as favourites again, other than that I think the Focuses of Jackson and Jordan and the BMWs of Goff and Tordoff have to start as outside bets.

    I’ll miss the V8, but I understand they had to make a change for the sake of competitiveness. At least there are still a range of engines in the WEC (some of the GT’s sound absolutely ace). Can’t really speak much for the look of it, seems to be wearing dazzle camouflage.

    I don’t think so, unless he did it for TV. Last I remember him driving was a Caterham, and they never used V6’s.

    OK my memory is terrible, they did use V6’s. I don’t think he ever drove one though.

    I never minded Allan McNish, I think he’s good at explaining what racing drivers do and think. I agree with most of the rest of what you said, although I don’t see how anyone can dislike Murray. I doubt he can travel much these days so it’ll probably just be his thoughts on the season or a ‘storytime with Murray’ segment.

    You should definitely keep it Keith, it will be interesting to see the comparison between our choices and the general public. It also gives us an opportunity to discuss drivers’ performances between ourselves.
