• Thanks for your submissions. They were all equally enjoyable to look at. However, there was one that was more equal than others. The circuit was brilliantly drawn, with the required long straight, as well as a continuum of fast, winding corners. Congratulations, @philereid .

  • and what can Chilton, Van der Garde and Erickson ever achieve in F1, Nothing. Teams at the back of the grid will use their money until it runs out and then they will hire another paydriver. Make F1 survivable for f1 teams at the back and Talented Drivers like Vandoorne, Frijns , Marciello … can get a drive in a sauber or Haas F1 and that teams…[Read more]

  • and who runs GP2 Bernie and Bernie doesn’t spends $30 m on talents. Besides the last 3 GP2 champions didn’t convince me they could make it into f1. what has Valsechi done after his title, if he was such a talent that f1 missed he should be a star in Indycar, dtm or wec becouse those team would line up for him.

  • @vanguard Agreed. But they are still very good drivers – both had long careers, including being the ‘most raced’ driver, and Patrese was a World Karting Champion. Without Mansell and Schumacher alongside them, both could be WDCs. Same for Berger without Senna.

@Iestyn Davies. I disagree with your spec prediction. Firstly, Alonso tends to lose it a bit under pressure and Hamilton can get inconsistent – as we saw last season with the qualifying. He could outrace Nico, but that would not be the case with Vettel or Alonso, Raikkonen or Button in spec cars. Alonso would have to hold it together – which…[Read more]

  • @matt90 @debaser91 What that means is that Hamilton reached ‘peak speed’, or ‘fastest in the field’. In his rookie year, he was 0.2 seconds down on Alonso in qualifying (which was still the best debut, this side of WWII). By 2008, he could ‘make the difference’, even when Ferrari had a faster car. Kovalainen was no slouch (as his time at Lotus…[Read more]

On the original premise of the thread @f1fanf1fan:

1958 – a lost title for Moss, just like 1956, 1959.. He’s a multiple WDC, somehow without, a bit like Hamilton, before WDC #2 in 2014. Moss has more wins (16-14) than Brabham, 3 titles.

1976 – probably different without Lauda’s crash at Nurburgring, although Hunt is not an undeserving winner, as…[Read more]

@f1fanf1fan True, but it depends on McLaren-Honda. If they do well, they’ll be the ‘second team’, occasionally able to challenge Mercedes. Red Bull will be similar, but probably let down by Renault, while Williams will be nipping at their heels. Could Honda outdo Mercedes, and thus make the Mercedes car beat the McLaren?

Ferrari will be 5th, so…[Read more]
