I’m not sure if its because I’m British but I think Button just edges this. Button was hands down the best driver in mixed conditions/ slicks on a damp track but Rosberg wasn’t a standout driver in any particular category, he was just very very consistent. Both deserving champions and I’m delighted for both of them to bow out when they wanted to.

Wish they would use something more current

Changing the points will never make the sport greatly better. All drivers would overtake if they had the chance, the problem is that they have difficulty doing so, meaning the issue is in the design of the cars/tires/track etc and not because of a mindset.

Covert racism does play a huge part in every day life especially in sports and I believe this to be more of a fit then full blown racism. F1 at times can seem like a old boy’s club and I can definitely see this as an issue towards how Hamilton is treated but there are other factors.

Personally I don’t particularly warm to Lewis, I appreciate his ability and he will no doubt become the best British driver in history by the time he hangs his helmet up but he has many flaws. His attitude is appalling! He never looks like he is enjoying life. Hes commanding a huge wage, driving the fastest car in the sport we all love and pursuing all his side dreams (rapping ect.) yet he looks and sounds as if his mother had recently past away.

All he has to do in my eyes is just sound a little more upbeat and people would have a completely different opinion on him.

Kimi passing two on the first lap into turn 4. I think he passed a Sauber (Nasr?) and a Toro Rosso (Verstappen?)

Conspiracy Theory: As we all know Bernie is getting on in years and there has been talk about his replacement. Is he trying to take F1 down with him or is he just senile? He hasn’t said or done one good thing for the sport for the last few years its miles past the ridiculous phase and entering tedious now. I’m surprised that there hasn’t been louder calls for him to be replaced yet.

Fernando as long as that Honda engine is there or there abouts. I think we all know what Fernando brings even with a sub-par car.

    There’s quite a few that I like so I don’t have a personal favourite:

The only one of Kimi’s helmets I actually like is the one he wore in 2003.

The same goes for Alonso, his helmet design got busier and busier with each year that passed. I like the 2005 version, it was simple but affective.

Button’s Helmet in 2009 just looked awesome with the car.

Finally Barrichello’s 2011 Brazil Senna Tribute. I practically love all of Ruben’s lids but this one just oozes cooleness.

Points One and Two are are valid but everyone and their dog knows how difficult it can be to work with Ron so its understandable on Alonso’s side.

Point Three is a bit ridiculous. There was no way of knowing Red Bull were going to be as good as they were 2009-Present, Renault were a team on decline true, but tell anyone back then that Red Bull would dominate F1 for the next 4 years and they would have laughed in your face.

Point four… well, you’ll have to ask Stefano Domenicali how he didn’t win the Championship.

All in all since 2006 Alonso has had the fastest car on the grid once in 2007 (2010 is debatable, Red Bull had the fastest car but their reliability was inferior). How many times in the last decade has a driver without the fastest car on the grid won the championship? Very few I guess.

    Hungary

    Japan
    Brazil

These are usually the best races of the year, doubt the BBC will broadcast more than half of them though.

I miss the early 2000’s liveries where we had the Light blue Benetton/Renaults, the yellow Jordans, the Orange Arrrows, Green Jags, royal blue Saubers. But we are nearly there with the current grid, we just need a few yellows and light blues here and there and we have an awesome looking grid. Besides it cant get much worse than 2007 right?

@junior-pilot The engine freeze was put into place before the engines were even made, if the Mercs had a small advantage we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now. However their advantage is huge, there has been times this year where they have been nearly a second faster than everyone else. The worst part is, with an engine freeze there is absolutely no chance for anyone to catch up; at least in recent years when aero was the priority area you had the chance to start over the next year.

For a lot of British fans the engine freeze suits them very well as Hamilton would be nailed on to win the championship for the next few years, Rosberg is good but the only reason this year has gone down to the wire is due to mechanical problems for Lewis and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone that disagrees with that.

I’m not going to sit and complain if the rules remain the same as its nice to see someone other than Red Bull/Ferrari/McLaren win for a change but its going to become very dull after the 3rd championship in a row when no one can actually challenge.

@junior-pilot I agree but why should Renault and Ferrari get penalised for not having another chance to get it right? Unless you are a Merc/Hmilton/Rosberg fan, who is going to enjoy another processional season that only two guys can win with no other teams having the slightest chance to even compete? Hell, the only reason why people aren’t complaining about a dominant team is because Hamilton and Rosberg are very close on form, if you put in a number 1 and 2 driver this season would have been a snooze-fest ala 2011.

Merc did an outstanding job and even with an engine change they will probably still be on top but we have to give the other manufacturers a chance otherwise F1 just becomes predictable and boring.

@carlos-santos No it wouldn’t but F1 isn’t very F1 right now as it is, especially with stupid gimmicks like Abu Double and DRS in my opinion. It’s not very F1 to get behind the smaller teams when they are going under either but people seem to be doing that, I don’t remember this many people upset when HRT decided to call it a day.

    I like this idea!
