@Bullfrog I presume for the braking and drag race challenges they put wet tyres on the Red Bull in order to make the result more closer.

His pass on Mardenborough was amazing as well. For some reason Mardenborough took a tighter line into that corner which would have made him slower through the corner but nevertheless, it was a brilliant overtake.

Obviously Jenson’s race in Canada 2011 was unbelievably good, but I’d say his first ever victory in Hungary 2006 was better. I don’t remember anything at all from the German Grand Prix of 2013 (except Webber’s tyre hitting the cameraman), but I do remember thinking afterwards that it was Vettel’s best drive of his career. I could be massively wrong on that though. Monaco 2011 is also a good shout for Vettel as well. His long stint on worn tyres was pretty crazy.

For Webber, I’d say Monaco 2012 was up there for him. He had a train of cars right behind him the whole way through the race and it was sprinkling with rain near the end. Enormous pressure must have been on him and overall I remember thinking afterwards that it was the most impressive victory of his I’d seen.

So happy to see IndyCar back and let’s hope it’s a great season. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have a TV channel which broadcasts the races so I’m going to have to wait until it’s uploaded to YouTube. Fingers crossed it doesn’t take too long for that to happen and I don’t see the result! I think it’ll be really interesting to see how the new aero kits fare and whether it has a negative effect on the racing – hopefully not. I have a good feeling about this season though.. it has a lot of right ingredients which should provide lots of drama and excitement.

@ivan-vinitskyy I still do find F1 and car variations interesting, obviously, but I personally feel that Formula E, GP2 and IndyCar is the ideal scenario in terms of all the cars being pretty much equal in performance. (Or are they? I’ve unsuccessfully tried to find the answer to this on google..) With these series, the field is way more closer and any driver who turns up to a race weekend, perfects their set-up and is most one with the circuit will be the fastest, not the other way around where it’s more or less always to do with which team’s car is the quickest. If F1 would ever adopt these kind of changes, we would have a series where the top drivers in the world are all competing on a level playing ground. It’s like watching a 100 metre sprint race in the Olympics and each runner has different shoes which make a big difference in their speed. What’s the best thing to do in that case? Eliminate this difference between the runners and give each of them the same shoes. Of course this and F1 are worlds apart but the logic is still there.

IndyCar is the most popular open wheel motorsport category in the USA, and the fact that all of the teams use identical chassis works brilliantly I think. There’s huge variations in who is competitive each race and a huge number of people still watch it. Couldn’t F1 adopt something similar? It could lead to more teams joining and improve the health of the sport.

Please be aware that I know that Formula One would pretty much never go down this route, but I still don’t really understand why that is, and it’s been bugging me for quite a while. So many people are probably rolling their eyes reading what I’m saying but I’ve started this thread, at a risk of looking quite stupid probably, in order to promote a discussion on this as it’s something which is never talked about.

This thread has immediately sparked a memory which I completely forgot about. Back when I was maybe 12-13 (and had no interest in F1 at the time), I went to a museum in London. I can’t remember exactly what museum (or even if it was a museum), but I remember they had Ralf Schumacher’s Toyota from when he crashed at Indianapolis. It was half destroyed obviously but still on display. It must have been the original one? If so, that’s the only F1 car I’ve ever been near. Has anyone else heard of this or seen the car there themselves? I’m certain that this isn’t a figment of my imagination, but googling it has brought up no results.

BBC radio 5 live does a preview and review of each race – http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/cff1
Also James Allen did a podcast every month on his website for the last few years but he doesn’t seem to be doing any this year which is a shame.

Any chance of a return for Simona de Silvestro or Danica Patrick to IndyCar? I’d love to see either of them back in the series. Plus, it adds more variety to the grid when it’s not just all male drivers.

I’m sorry but no way has Rosberg outperformed Hamilton so far this season. Apart from his two mistakes in qualifying, pushing too hard in Austria & Bahrain, and his mistake in qualifying at Silverstone (a very easy mistake to make), he’s been pretty much flawless.

@andae23 It is slow, but it reminds me of TT zero. A couple of years ago, electric bikes were added to the list of races at the Isle of Man TT. The first year, people were laughing because the bikes were so slow. But since the first race in 2010 up to now, the speeds have increased quite a lot. A race winning average speed of 96.820 MPH in 2010 – 117.366 MPH in 2014. That’s significant I’d say. Yes, both TT zero and Formula E are completely different, but I’d expect that the lap times will definately improve.

Will I vote? No. It’s hard for me to not tear my hear out when I hear of utterly absurd gimmicks like this!

Can anyone tell me how to add in those markers which can be used to differenciate all three sectors?

“If he didn’t have bad luck, he’d have no luck at all” – James Allen. He’s not in an ideal position at the moment, because he can’t really deliver any standout performances to entice other teams due to the Toro Rosso car over the last few years not being “up there” & always being in or around the midfield. And also the fact that the Red Bull junior team is eager to try out some new drivers in their development programme. So although he does a solid job, he’s been in the team quite a long time now and not really done anything spectacular – which might be why Toro Rosso might try someone new out, especially with seeing how Kvyat has been performing so early into his F1 career.
