Hmmm. It does look very slick, which I guess is a good thing.
However I have my distinct reservations about the following:
1) – Portrayal of Hunt as the heroic, handsome charismatic Anglophone battling the dull boring robotic Germanic Niki Lauda
2) – That it will in some ways try to portray Lauda as a coward (the GDPA meeting scene in the trailer implies that it was a motion carried by the majority of drivers to race in Fuji when in reality there was one vote in it)
3) – That with Lauda being out of action for 2 races is swept under the carpet and that a huge fuss is made of Hunt’s DSQ in Britain.Others may see the general theme of my comments, but I can’t help thinking that from the trailer, Hunt is going to come out a demi-god and Lauda as a somewhat lesser light. Infact it may well end with “James Hunt died young, Niki Lauda quit the sport to fly aeroplanes”….

19th June 2013, 20:43 at 8:43 pm #238109James_mcParticipantI stayed at the camping near Les Combs in 2009 and on the Saturday we went in the car down to Stavelot. Nice little town, fairly quiet with a few nice restaurants. I was actually surprised that there wasn’t more happening. I suspect a lot of well-at-heel fans stay there. Wasn’t a long drive (although that is from the other side of the circuit).

I will be tuning in…
18th May 2013, 18:27 at 6:27 pm #236616James_mcParticipantPersonally, I think that Mansell is a good shout, he was in an incredibly strong era. Ditto Hamilton.
I know that I’ll get pilloried for this, but I think JV is a reasonable contender. Yes, everyone always remembers his appalling performances in the early 2000s, he was brilliant in 1996/7. I would certainly rate him above 1996 team-mate Hill and above Button.
8th April 2013, 19:04 at 7:04 pm #141451James_mcParticipantThey raced the 1961 I think USA GP under another name in protest at something or another, I think they were white and dark blue.
I suspect that there are others – I have a sneaking suspicion that there was once a yellow one somewhere?
11th March 2013, 0:51 at 12:51 am #228334James_mcParticipantKeith mentioned 1997, 1998 was pretty good too however.
I really liked 1999 which was the title that noone wanted to win (H-H F was driving magnificently in a Jordan of all things having a mid-season title push) and it featured the race which noone wanted to win (1999 European GP when each successive leader slithered off in wet conditions!).
23rd February 2013, 21:55 at 9:55 pm #225498James_mcParticipantWell. If I have to go with drivers which I have seen, then it is certainly Button by some margin in my opinion.
If we extend it to drivers I haven’t seen, then I’d have to say Hawthorn or Hunt.
23rd February 2013, 16:56 at 4:56 pm #225646James_mcParticipantThe European (Luxembourg?) GP from 1999 was pretty amazing, the race that no-one wanted to win!
And 1996 Monaco GP – the race that no-one wanted to finish!
The 1998 Austrian GP was good too, a storming drive from DC from the back of the pack to finish second (albeit he’d started 14th to boot!).
13th December 2012, 22:44 at 10:44 pm #219218James_mcParticipantWe’ve seen drivers do that before (DC on Schumi in France springs immediately to mind), but I’ve only ever seen it in-cockpit, and I don’t think as blatant as that! Haha!
I am torn however – I feel that the picture almost looks like a very clever photoshop image. I may well be wrong, and I hope I am!
25th November 2012, 21:52 at 9:52 pm #215521James_mcParticipantWell, only Massa (as expected) yielded for Alonso.
However, no-one seems to have predicted Schumacher yielding for Vettel, costing his current employers world championship points and helping against his former employers.
Bit of a two-finger salute to the two teams that pushed him out of the sport!
18th November 2012, 16:47 at 4:47 pm #215235James_mcParticipantOh this is excellent if it’s true.
I do love it when Ferrari play the pantomime villain!
15th November 2012, 22:03 at 10:03 pm #140933James_mcParticipantWas it not 2010?
7th November 2012, 22:58 at 10:58 pm #214683James_mcParticipantSeeing Frank Williams see another Williams win at long last. [Although like others, I wish it had been pretty much anyone else that got it!]
Even though I’d much rather see Alonso win the championship, Vettel’s drive to 3rd was excellent, regardless of circumstances.
Seeing a more mature Hamilton at long last.
