I go to Spa AND Monza…both leave delivery right down to the wire :( NIGHTMARE! I have had my Silverstone ticket for months already…

Chances are I will not be in when my Spa ticket is delivered either and they won’t leave it anywhere (like a neighbour). I wish i could just collect them at the circuit, like Hungaroring. I guess there is too muc money involved: admin + courier for x 2 tickets for Spa and Monza has cost me £111!!!

My experience of the Thursday Pitlane walk is not good. You Have to go in via the main entrance afree queueing and being squeezed for ages. You cannot step off the pavement and so things get a little cozy. Won’t bother this year

Third time for Hungaroring :). Tips: if the weather is good it is almost always SCORCHING so take sun cream. Circuit food is average so if you are going by car it is worth stopping off at the large Tesco or Carrefour en route. Remember, grid is offset from the garages: super gold covered grandstand is opposite garages, not grid (unless they have changed it :). If you are walking in to circuit from the nearby village, do take time to stand at the crossroads of Bernie Avenue, where you stand a great chance of watching the drivers come in. They tend to drive in themselves, taking the VIP route off the motorway. Access to circuit is SO much better now there is a motorway bridge over the Danube :) We fly into Vienna and drive to Hungary. Much cheaper flights!

Don’t take glass bottles in. Against other circuits around the world, food is good, reasonably priced too. But for GA you do really need to stick to a pot. Shame you didn’t go for a grandstand as you really don’t want to miss the opportunity of walking the whole circuit to take in the sights. Maybe use Friday as a take it all in day? :) I like to take my photos on Friday as you are not trying to focus too much on times etc. If you can, bring a small radio, or better still an iPod nano. Tune in to Radio Silverstone and keep one earpiece in. Us McLaren lot all meet up behind Abbey on Friday and Saturday for chats and beers :)

Lock it up against the perimeter fence…. best fencing is at south of circuit, near Stavelot :)
but LOADS of people cycle in and so must lock them up all round the fences. There always seem to be plenty of staff / plod around so should be safe. I cover my seat with a bin liner, cos it is bound to get wet :)

If you are GA get there SUPER early. ALWAYS take rain gear with you. Walk as much of the circuit as possible, even though it isn’t for the faint-hearted: there are many steep parts!! Food at the circuit is not good at all. Overpriced, pretty bad as well. We always take a pack up in. I know someone whose race weekend was ruined by a dodgy hot dog…

Bear in mind that parking can be a good half hour or more walk in. Personally, I stay in Luxemburg (cheaper, cheap fuel and fab duty free prices), drive to the houses out back of Stavelot via Trois-Ponts, unhitch my bike and then cycle right into the circuit on the disused railway line (now a cycle path). :) Don’t expect glitz and glamour, remember you only see 44 laps… but there are few circuits you can get as close to the cars as Spa :) Take a radio, I use iPod Nano – you get commentary – OK, in 3 langs… but every few mins it comes round to English. it will almost certainly rain at some point too…but then that spices things up. I have done GA lots of times, plus pit straights. For GA I swear there is no limit on spectator numbers though – I have seen it RIDICULOUSLY overcrowded around honeypot areas – people up trees….on stepladders… all sorts!

Thanks! We are looking at somewhere like Kyle IF we go the hotel route as opposed to one of the packages. Is it an easy route in? @ckang, the packages include shuttle service, some complimentary drinks and food, pitlane walk, meet an F1 Legend, buffet lunch/reception, that sort of thing, depending on evel of package. Plus grandstand seats of course :)

I thought they went on sale in Feb…? Am looking at buying one of the packages – ticket, hotel and hospitality. @ckang if you go to the circuit website and sign up to the newsletter you will get notification. Not been to the US for an F1 before, so looking forward to adding another notch to my F1 stick besides UK, France, Spain, Spa, Hockenheim, Nurburgring, Monza, Hungaroring, Singapore, Turkey…over many years :) Lovely sport to be into, but no wonder I am skint most of the year :)
Has anyone been on one of the circuit packages? Are they worth it?
As always, we are travelling totally independent – am dragging husband to the US for 2 weeks with F1 in the middle :)

Depends where you are seated / where you come in. It isn’t the most wheelchair-friendly circuit.

Oh, and unless you are in the Pit Straights, remember to take a seat pad or cushion! Seating is on marked platforms so you will need to stake your pitch. I was in 8a Upper last year, quite expense ‘seats’ and it really pee’d me off seeing people in €100-cheaper seats from the lower tiers sneak into our expensive bit, squeezing themselves in on the end! Take something at least as big as your backside – and stand (or sit) your ground….stand for the National Anthem and you lose have a cheek’s worth of space ;)

@infernojim go to http://www.formula1.com/races/in_detail/italy_905/event_timetable.html I always print off every timetable from here before going to a race. Make sure to have it on local time before you print it out :) My tip? Don’t bother with the free bus at Monza station – lways packed, slow, hot and sweaty. Far better to walk in if you have the stamina :) Beautiful parkland, stunning views :)

@Tim Edwards I always take my iPod Nano – clips to my race shirt, is light and gets me excellent coverage at Spa (every 10 mins or so in Eng), Nurburgring, S/Stone and Singapore. No circuit can cope with streaming bandwidth for everyone, radio is way better :) Or get one of the radios from Silverstone – only around ten quid (not the fixed bandwidth ones). My OH just hangs his round his neck – works just as well as my iPod, though not as cute :)

    @ Mat Bowden
1 Food is sh1t at circuit. Fries, mayo, dodgy h/dogs (mate got food poisoning), waffles all overpriced. Lug your own in…
2 Be prepared for rain at any time
3 Wear good comfy footwear and expect to walk a lot – very steep :)
4 If bringing a woman, warn her the loos charge 70 cents. Blokes just freepee in the trees :(
I stay in Germany or Luxembourg each time and drive, park then cycle in so can’t comment on campsites….but have heard the loos are a little spicy after a couple of days :D

@Ellie, you should have booked your parking with your ticket. Not sure how it works now with just turning up to park TBH. That is how it used to be…. I am parking away from the circuit and cycling.
