I would think a tie for the title should be decided the same way that a tie for qualifying is decided, whoever set the time/win first wins it.

So if the championship ended today, I would crown Vettel as the champion since he won the first race.

I’m looking at heading over for the 2017 race from NZ.

I’ve been to the Australian Grand Prix twice and have decided that next year I should go for something a bit further afield and tie in bit of an extended holiday at the time an extra few days either side kind of thing.

One thing I was wondering is about the languages. I know Montreal is in Quebec and that Quebec has French as the official language.

I was wondering about how much French you would need to know to be there for the week? Do most people in the shops/restaurants/hotels speak English as well? Are signs bilingual etc??

    With New Zealand,

I would put Scott Dixon as our #1 driver alongside Brendan Hartley with Mitch Evans as the reserve driver.

Scott simply has more experience than either Mitch or Ritchie and really is the best driver we currently have racing.

That does sound similar to what the V8 supercars do, but on Saturday there are two races of the same distance and one race on Sunday of double distance.

E.g. at the Sydney 500, the Saturday races are 125km (78miles) and the Sunday race is 250km(156miles) with Quali sessions for each race.

Obviously the 5th of March is the day for the birth of great things.

    Long may F1F keep running.

When I went to the Australian grandprix in 2014, I certainly didn’t need them and I did 4 years earlier with the 2010 cars.

Not only are the new cars quieter the noise is also lower pitched and for me that was a bigger difference than the noise level itself. When the V8 super-cars went round they were equally as loud as what the 2010 car was but because it was more of a rumble than a scream I didn’t need the earplugs.

So, no I don’t believe you would need them, they aren’t that loud and the pitch doesn’t hurt your ears as much even so.

I’m hopeful that the McLaren livery may only be an iterim livery after seeing Button and to a lesser extent Magnussen’s helmet.

Even Alonso’s helmet has got a large white section on it this year as well, so I think we could see a return to the white & red/orange car. Maybe not in testing, but hopefully it will be in Melbourne.

    @Bradley13 That’s something I hadn’t even considered.

That could well make sense, all we have to presume Vettel is going to Ferrari are some vague comments about whats happening with his future.

    OR

Could we see Alonso switch to Lotus (again…) for the same reasons you think Vettel may want to go there. Historical basis for good chassis and the best powerplant avaliable. Makes for the best possible chance of another championship.

I imagine we should know more in the weeks before/after Abu Dhabi, end of season wrapping things up nicely.

Excellent move, I think Keith. I completely agree with not running either one.

Now that Vettel has confirmed to be leaving Red Bull, and its still most likely Alonso is leaving, I suspect this would be the Ferrari/McLaren line uo

    Ferrari

    #1 – Vettel
    #2 – Raikkonen
    TD – Bianchi

I think we can all agree Vettel is almost certainly going to Ferrari in 2015, and Raikkonen will most likely stay as the second driver to keep some consistency within the team.

Bianchi being the most promising of the Ferrari Academy drivers thus far, will likely be placed as a reserve driver at Ferrari should the need arise, continuing his YDT performances in preparation for 2016 when Raikkonen retires, parterning Vettel.

    McLaren

    #1 – Alonso
    #2 – Magnussen
    TD – Button

Reason being, Button is a very experienced driver, has plenty of history with both McLaren and Honda, and with it being unlikely he will have an active F1 seat next year, I suspect he will be retained as a test/reserve driver due to his vast experience, i’m sure he’ll prove very useful in the setup of the car.

Obviously, he’ll have a permanent seat outside of F1 and I would like to suggest the possibility of him joining the Australian V8 Supercars, when he did the promo event at Bathurst back in 2011 he did allude to the fact he would like to join full time (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/button-eyes-v8s-after-record-blast-on-bathurst-mountain/story-fn7q3txe-1226026335505?nk=218707bfd4ad22d54322177e1cad7abd).

But I think more likely is a DTM or possibly Indycar drive.

I was thinking over the battery/range/power issue over the weekend. Obviously these cars are quite heavy because of the battery pack.

What I would quite like to see is Tesla to become involved, their top battery/motor combo produces 310kw and gives 265miles which equates to 424km of range at average driving conditions, so obviously going flatout will reduce range considerably.

However, considering the entire race length of the China ePrix was only 54km, 3.44km*25laps, at most economical driving conditions the Model S could complete 123 laps of the circut, which is nearly 10times as many laps as the Formula E cars could manage, honestly going not that much slower, so even at full race chat based on China we could see the FE cars complete the whole race on a Tesla battery system.

Now to my actual point, given that the Tesla battery system is by far and away the longest range system avaliable, once they have their Gigafactory up and running, could we see them in a partnership with Renault and Formula E to provide batteries to complement the Renault motor and see either the cars completing the whole race as I said above, or continuing to use two cars but going a hell of a lot faster in each car?

Obviously the battery pack would have to be smaller to fit into the smaller FE cars, but considering the lower weight and everything, they would still give a significant range boost.

I was at Melbourne, and yes, the sound is much quieter than previous years. However I honestly prefer it, theres no need for earplugs because they aren’t at deafening screaming levels and even more better because the engines are quieter you can hear the tyres and in my opinion actually get more enjoyment because its not all overrun by the engines, you can hear everything else as well. And yes, you can hear the announcers, obviously not when cars are right at your point on the track, but unlike previous years

Also, I prefer the engine note this year as it sounds more like a proper engine, you can hear the revs change as they are accelerating and breaking. Last year it was just an increase in the pitch of the scream.

Obviously others will disagree but overall I think they sound better, especially live.
