JimG commented on the post, Pirelli criticise “ludicrous” wait for 2014 tyre decision 9 hours, 44 minutes ago
Mark Webber at least used to live in the UK. I did wonder why.

JimG commented on the post, FIA wades into tyre row with safety ruling 4 days, 9 hours ago
“[Valtteri Bottas] is giving strong feedback to the engineers in order to improve the car.”
Did anyone else have a mental picture of Bottas shouting “MAKE IT FASTER!” ;-)

JimG commented on the post, 25 years ago today: Senna’s first win for McLaren 3 weeks, 2 days ago
I think it’s hard to compare F1 (or any motorsport) to football, boxing or whatever, because the car is such a large part of the equation. Cars are pretty artificial, and so are the rules governing their design […]

JimG commented on the post, Brawn: Mercedes need to improve race pace 3 weeks, 2 days ago
Yes it’s obvious, but it’s also obviously an answer to an interview question. Why do people get so upset with the interviewee instead of the interviewer? I can imagine that Ross Brawn is getting pretty fed up […]

JimG commented on the post, Soft tyre’s short life poses strategic conundrum 1 month, 1 week ago
We switched to daylight savings (GMT+1) on 31 March.
News of its being spring has yet to reach the Weather Gods ;-)

JimG commented on the post, Putting Button’s 1,000 points tally in perspective 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Agreed – he averaged slightly worse than second place!

JimG commented on the post, Sepang conditions masked Lotus pace – Allison 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Remember that Pirelli are only delivering the tyres that the FIA ask them to.
However, so many people seem to lose sight of this that it’s probably doing Pirelli no good anyway.

JimG commented on the post, Were Red Bull & Mercedes right to use team orders? 1 month, 4 weeks ago
I wouldn’t say that’s really the same. To stretch your football analogy to breaking point, the situation in F1 is more like having two star strikers who are trying to out-score each other as well as the other […]

JimG commented on the post, Were Red Bull & Mercedes right to use team orders? 1 month, 4 weeks ago
Thinking of something that @keithcollantine wrote in the article, the team orders do show a lack of trust. Vettel seems to have shed his “crash kid” problems and both he and Webber showed that they were able to […]
-
JimG commented on the post, Red Bull and Mercedes not the only ones resorting to team orders 1 month, 4 weeks ago
I think that the problem is the tension inherent in teams running more than one car. You have a situation where you’ve recruited two drivers who have spent most of their lives ruthlessly fighting their way to the […]

JimG commented on the post, Ecclestone “massively pushing” for F1′s own Danica Patrick 2 months, 4 weeks ago
Well, it’s “for sure” that Susie Wolff is learning how to talk like an F1 driver ;-)
-
JimG commented on the post, Wolff ready to make changes at Mercedes 3 months, 1 week ago
Maybe their strategy is to handicap the rest of the field by hiring all the designers for themselves? ;-)

JimG commented on the post, Budget cap is ‘only way for F1 to survive’ – Gascoyne 4 months, 1 week ago
@andrewtanner In F1 even written agreements are pretty, ahem, flexible ;-) Even so, I can understand him being a bit peeved by the situation.

JimG commented on the post, Budget cap is ‘only way for F1 to survive’ – Gascoyne 4 months, 1 week ago
When Lotus (and Virgin and HRT) joined the grid in 2010 it was with the understanding that a budget cap (the Resource Restriction Agreement) was on the way, which would put all teams on a level playing field […]

For sure!

JimG commented on the post, Kobayashi says he won’t be in F1 in 2013 5 months, 1 week ago
Um, I think Alguersuari did a couple of laps for some tyre company or other?
-
JimG commented on the post, Senna expected to lose 2013 seat to Bottas 5 months, 3 weeks ago
He’s still trying to land another race seat so he’s bound to stress the positives. This was an interview in more than one sense of the word!

JimG commented on the post, Button to get five-place grid penalty at Suzuka 7 months, 3 weeks ago
F1 may be a team sport, but it has separate championships for drivers and constructors. That being the case, why penalise a driver for a construction problem?

JimG commented on the post, Perez gets his big chance – but not with Ferrari 7 months, 4 weeks ago
“What Ferrari need is a new Massa – a fresh young driver who’s had a few years in a Ferrari-powered Sauber and done a spot of testing in a pukka prancing horse.”
Kobayashi to Ferrari? Could be interesting :-)

JimG commented on the post, Double DRS set for ban under 2013 rules 9 months, 3 weeks ago
I would have thought that originals would mean more to the driver than the team, and is it so hard to get replicas made for the MTC trophy cabinet? But you’re right in that if anyone should know the McLaren way […]
