Not strictly BBC F1 coverage of 2013 but it is BBC F1 coverage in 2013.

BBC4 started a new series on Monday called Motor Racing at the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01rhvc7
Episode 1 (about Moss, Hawthorn & Fangio)is not available on iplayer but it is being repeated on BBC4 on Sunday evening at 21:00 with episode 2 on Monday at 20:30

I think Toleman did this with Derek Warwick at the 1982 British GP, though I think that was more about publicity than ‘spoiling’

According to Bernie Sky’s coverage is that good that F1 doesn’t need BBC’s free to air coverage
“We will never move all countries to pay‑per‑view only though it wouldn’t make any difference here in the UK,”
“Sky reaches over 10m. We don’t get 10m on the BBC, normally about 6m or 7m.”

The 1987 British GP at Silverstone. Mansell a handful of seconds behind Piquet pitted for new tyres with 28 laps to go and came out 29s seconds behind him. In the remain laps Mansell broke the lap record 11 times until with just 2 laps to go he sold Piquet a dummy as they came down the Hanger Straight to take the lean.
UK based fantics can watch the BBC highlights programme here:

The 1985 San Marino GP at Imola. A race that sticks in my mind due to the dramatic closing laps. First Senna leading runs out of fuel and is passed by Stefan Johansson in only his 2nd race for Ferrari. The crowd go wild only for 1/2 a lap later Johansson to also run out of fuel. As he’s slows Post takes the lead and goes on to cross the line in 1st. He then run out of fuel on the run-down lap and is later disqualified leaving Elio de Angelis to claim his final GP win. On top of all this there’s Thierry Boutsen pushing his car over the line to ultimately claim 2nd place

You can watch the final laps here:

And if we’re including non-F1 races there’s always the last race of the 1992 BTCC championship held at Silverstone. Video of the last few laps here.

There’s clearly some value in tie-ups between car companies and cigarettes

    http://www.luxurylaunches.com/fashion/lamborghini_cigarettes_to_be_launched.php

    From the above site
“take a look at Lamborghini Cigarettes that is due to be launched on the 18th of this month. Created by South Korea’s KT&G and named after the famous Italian fashion brand “Tonino Lamborghini”, these cigarettes are said to cost 2,700 Won ($2.4) each. “

“…confirmed as the title music for Sky Sports F1 HD and will feature on the brand new channel’s opening titles. “

Does that mean its the theme for the channel rather than their race programme? I suppose it could be both.
It feels a little pedestrian to me, not that it really matters as I won’t be listening to it as a non-Sky viewer

    Good question.

I’d probably agree with Mansell and probably in both 86 and 87 given the level of competition he faced from teammate Piquet, Prost in McLaren and Senna in the Renault Benetton Caterham Lotus and even the Ferraris on their day

If you find the radio audio is out of sync with the video then there’s a couple of things you can do depending on which which is ahead.

If you find the audio is ahead, get yourself a digital DAB radio. Not only does DAB have its own delay over medium-wave that might resolve it on its own, if you get one with an ability to pause live radio (My Pure DAB calls this ReVu) you can simply pause the audio for 1 or 2 seconds to bring it back in time with the video. This is what I’ve done the past couple of years to have the 5live commentary in sync with the BBC1 TV feed

If the video is ahead then hopefully your set-top-box has a recording option. If it does you should be able to play it while its recording so its a few seconds behind ‘live’

I’ve got a 1994 MTV Simtek T-shirt, programme from the 94 and 95 British GPs and photos of Senna & Berger, Herbert & Hakkinen and Mansell taken at a F1 test session at Silverstone in 93.

I did have a pair or Canon Williams Renault trainers

And I did have and may still have rubber marbles from the track after the 94 British GP.

And somewhere I should still have a couple of copies of the 1994 Team Lotus calendar, one version being the final version that was sold and another version produced with Castrol Lotus branding that had to be withdrawn before going on sale after they Castrol didn’t continue their sponsorship
