I’ve finally put the covers on my Lotus 49 now that the new update neutered it to a sad degree. In recent weeks I’ve discovered how much fun the Solstice is (really gets a bad rap) so I’ve started running the GT Cup. Turned out to be a wise move. Won in my first official Solstice race. You guys have no idea. $40 for infield passes to the Indy 500. One of the most historically important races in the world and you can make a day trip of it for less than the cost of a big screen TV (if you live close enough). I’ve been to Mid Ohio before and it’s a great track that puts on awesome racing. I went when ALMS last raced there and saw the Indy qualifying. People may slag on Indy as having less talented drivers (some may be, but not all IMO), but the racing is great lately and it’s starting to regain some of it’s prominence ever since they consolidated CART and IRL.12th July 2014, 0:51 at 12:51 am #266427
Best tip to start is don’t worry about being fast in the first month. Learning consistency and accuracy to better your control will net much better results at the start. At least, if you’re a newcomer to sims :). But welcome! I do like it, though I wish they had kept the final corner (turn 1 on the oval). This is actually the second time they’ve changed it. Well, one thing I’m up to that I can’t believe I didn’t think to mention until now was I’m in the iracing video contest. I’m on my iPad at the moment so getting a link is a little difficult. Lemme nab one and get back here. I’m about 100 votes behind so it’s a long shot with one day left.

I commented on yesterday round-up on this topic. I don’t think F1 fans have seen or felt the sort of crushing disappointment that Indy Car fans have. People talk about F1 being ruined and whatnot (and let’s be honest, the decisions being made regarding the rules are getting very bad) but I don’t think it’s even come close to the absolute mass of financial wreckage American open wheel racing became. It’s hard to fathom now that it was at one time the pinnacle of racing in the United States. NASCAR has had a stranglehold on the American mentality of what racing is for so long that now people wonder why the Indy 500 is held in such high regard still. Think about that. For nearly 100 years Indy was THE race. Now some Americans couldn’t tell you what the hell it is and many certainly don’t know what type of cars or racing is done there. If ever there was a crying shame, that would be one.

I was so excited when they first announced this series. With each new announcement and demonstration I’m becoming more and more disillusioned. What I wanted was a straight up old school F1 technology war where you run what you brung. What I’d have settled for was a spec series that simply pits drivers against each other in electric cars. But it doesn’t even seem like we’re getting something as straight forward as that with the tweet boost and swapping cars. Gimmicks, gimmicks, gimmicks out the wazoo. While I’m intrigued, as someone who has lots of Hoosier blood in his family and has idolized the 500 since I was a child, I’m also a bit disappointed. The race has a kind of sacredness to it that few other races compare to. The fact that Indy Car still sets aside an entire month to practice and qualifying in accordance to tradition attests to this. It’s meant to be a huge and unique event. I would definitely like to go see them race on the road course because I’m curious and I love road course racing. But I wonder how fans of LeMans would feel if they started the month with a race on the Bugatti course? Or if the comparison even works. Were it happening at any other time of the year, I’d be all for it. But the month of May means the 500. I’d hate to see it diluted, though there’s no guarantee this will do that. I’ve been hopping all over and had a very busy schedule truth be told. I took 3rd in the 2nd season of the Continental Endurance Sports Car Series. After that, the group became disenfranchised with the company that was streaming the races (I shant name names) so a bunch of us formed our own streaming company and I’ve been lead commentator for the Global Sim Racing Channel. I’ve missed racing in the league, but it’s been a blast in the booth (if you’ve ever wanted to dip your toes into commentating, come talk to us! http://globalsimracingchannel.com/ ;) ). On the official side of thing, I felt was time I moved on from the Skippy to try bigger challenges, so I did a season in the Mustang, then the McLaren in Grand-Am. Got my ass absolutely HANDED to me in that league, so I took a break from higher powered cars and did a season in the SRF. Took a record 8 wins in a season for me. And now obviously since the 49 is out I’m giving that a go :).
On top of that, I’m driving in the Blondies MX5 World Tour for the next six months, which GSRC also broadcasts. I heard the skip is a blast on the new tire model, but I’ve got my hands full acclimating to the Lotus. I couldn’t bring myself to destroy or modify a great track. So I more or less made a new one that could exist along side it. No buildings were destroyed and all can still be accessed by Fawkham.

Hamilton is the faster driver. Button is the more consistent driver. Racing is not simply about speed over a single lap or a single dominant race. Whether you consider Hamilton the “better” driver is a matter of opinion and can be debated. Personally, until NASCAR gets rid of this “Boys have at it” policy, I have no respect for their governing body. It condones (and practically encourages) retribution. That is unsportsmanlike and childish behavior that has no place at the top echelon of professional racing. 15th September. Matthew Brabham, grandson of Sir Jack Brabham, wins the USF2000 championship
I just want to add a note that I actually got to watch him race in the USF2000 race at Mid-Ohio last month and he STORMED through the field from last place on the grid (due to a penalty) up to third! Kid is no joke.
