Jon Sandor commented on the post, Ferrari: ‘Six out of ten’ for season so far 1 week, 5 days ago
It does seem that a lot of people have a “People Magazine” level in interest in the drivers private lives. Perhaps some of that is the sporadic nature of F1 – with three weeks or more between races, people need […]

Somehow, we all lament that we do not have a James Hunt on the grid anymore.
Do we? I don’t recall ever lamenting that.

Jon Sandor commented on the post, Hamilton: “No one controls me” after leaving McLaren 1 week, 5 days ago
I’m sorry to tell you this, but no matter how much society paints itself as the liberal-lefty land of love and compassion, there’s still a whole load of prejudice out there.
No kidding!
“I hate that shiver […]

I’m curious – have you ever voted for SV as driver of the weekend?
At the end of the day these polls say very little about the drivers, but a good deal about the people taking the polls.

Jon Sandor commented on the post, Extra tyres to boost practice running in Spain 1 week, 6 days ago
So the great thing about these tyres is that they are entertaining and exciting and unpredictable – and besides, the same drivers still do just as well as they always did? The second part of this at least is true […]

Jon Sandor commented on the post, Caterham ‘should be beating Marussia’ – Kovalainen 1 week, 6 days ago
It’s a mystery to me why so many people keep insisting that the goodness of motor-racing is directly proportional to the number of pit stops per race. But if that is the case, why not simply mandate three (or […]

If the tyres would ‘just work’ then what you would have would be processional racing
The great majority of racing in F1 throughout its history has been “processional racing”. The same tends to be true in most […]

Jon Sandor commented on the post, Caterham ‘should be beating Marussia’ – Kovalainen 2 weeks, 1 day ago
I was a lot happier with F1 in the days when the tyre company spokesman was not a bigger star than 80% of the drivers. I’m sure Paul Hembery is a perfectly nice person in his private life, but I’m sick and tired […]

Webber has been the first to ignore team orders in the past
There you go again, trying to interject those annoying facts into the discussion!

Jon Sandor commented on the post, DRS and tyres: Has F1 got the balance right? 2 weeks, 1 day ago
As I write this, the poll is 44% negative on the tyres to 43% positive. And it’s 22% “very negative” to 11% “very positive”.

Jon Sandor commented on the post, Kubica only looking for F1 return 2 weeks, 2 days ago
I can think of two reasons. (1) Cost. (2) The desire to have cars which are quite close to one another in performance, and therefore the desire for differently branded engines which make very similar power. With […]

Jon Sandor commented on the post, DRS and tyres: Has F1 got the balance right? 2 weeks, 2 days ago
Sounds like you’re basically saying that it’s a bad thing if the finishing order in a race is determined by the order of the fastest car/driver combo.
Absent reliability issues and driver errors, we should […]

Jon Sandor commented on the post, DRS and tyres: Has F1 got the balance right? 2 weeks, 2 days ago
I would guess its cheaper to make the tyres degrade and easier to maintain/police than an engine or a gearbox.
I doubt that. Simply require everyone to use a 1984 Honda engine and a 1986 Ferrari gearbox.

Jon Sandor commented on the post, DRS and tyres: Has F1 got the balance right? 2 weeks, 2 days ago
Yes.
The tyre question posed was “What effect are the current tyres having on F1 racing in 2013?”
I get the impression a lot of people are responding to some very different question of their own creation, […]

Tyres in the 1950′s were the best they could be. Nobody was deliberately putting bad tyres on the cars back then to try to create an artificial challenge for the drivers and teams.
he hit mechanical troubles […]

I’ve never felt that “one stop races” are the bane of Formula One and a problem which urgently requires correction. Where did this idea come from anyway?
But if they really are such a problem, simply mandate […]

What would you suggest to avoid 2010 Abu Dhabi?
That depends on what exactly it is about Abu Dhabi 2010 which you wish to avoid.

Can those of you so against the tires and DRS give me an honest answer why you think eliminating them wouldn’t return us right back to no passing?
There was plenty of passing prior to 2013. Tyres made of […]

Jon Sandor commented on the post, DRS and tyres: Has F1 got the balance right? 2 weeks, 2 days ago
The tyres are atrocious. If the FIA wants more pit stops (as they evidently do) than they should simply require that every car make some mandatory minimum number of pit stops per race. That way we’d get the […]
