Fuji Speedway has been criticized for its most recent facelift, being labeled a boring stop-start circuit with many of the iconic sections of the track being removed or modified to become dull compared to the original.
2015 provides a chance for some renovations, with this the circuit was looking to revert back to its original sweeping high speed characteristics.

In sector one we come down the slightly shortened straight toward turn 1, which shoots 90 degrees off toward the right, next is the first of the sweepers, a tighter right rand corner which is followed by a long left and right sweeper as we cross in to the second sector after the 2km mark.
We’re welcomed with a reprofiled left hander which has become much more open and again a left and right hand sweeping s-bend follows. Down a short straight drivers must commit to the high speed right hander and then another short straight, then every thing slows down toward the end of the lap in sector 3. We rejoin the previous section of the course but in reverse, going through the hairpin and then picking up pace through the 3 left handers which dip and then rise up toward the last corner, a hairpin leading on the the main straight.

I agree, I think it would also help fill empty space on the cars with the lack of sponsorship these days.

I just opened this thread, read the rules and went to making a track, now I’ve checked in and seen other entries and it looks like great minds think alike ahaha

Below is take 2, my official entry, so I seem a bit more original lol

    Tygerberg Valley Autodrome

Judging from the nearby streetview and the OpenCycle map, there seems to be big amounts of elevation changes, combined with the fast sweeping corners it should provide quite a challenge for the drivers!

A long 1.1km straight leads to a slight uphill left hand hairpin, this follows with the right-left-right-left combination esses which have been designed with lots of camber angle to have the cars really fly through at a quick speed, it would be quite the spectacle to watch. As soon as that’s done, a right hand hairpin and then a tight left hander opens and then tightens up on the exit.
The next corner is a high speed off camber left hander which will prove difficult for the drivers, and then an on camber right hander immediately afterwards. Finishing the sector of the course, drivers have to navigate a simple right hand hairpin and follow the road down as it sweeps left in to an off camber, tight, left hand corner.
The cars will rise and fall over a slight crest and come to the second last bend, a left hand corner which leads to the very tight and fast right-left chicane. Speed through this last corner can make or break a lap, with large kerbs, cars can be easily damaged or unsettled, potentially punishing exit speed for sloppy driving and ruining the lap.

    Happy new year!

    Merry xmas!

I really liked all of your entries this challenge, some really nice tracks, good work!
But there can only be one winner, and it goes to @toti who had a great circuit which is both simple and fun.

I hope you’re all having a great holiday season!

    Over to you Toti!

The oil-rich Gulf state of Qatar is ploughing billions of pounds into hosting many sporting events, this includes looking to host a Formula 1 race in the near future.
The capital of Doha already has a motorsport facility at Losail but there has been talks to create a new venue for Formula 1.

Your challenge is to create this new venue in Qatar

    – Circuit must be between 4 and 7km long
    – Cannot use the Losail circuit
    – Street circuits are permitted
    – Must design pit lane
    – Less than 18 corners

    Bonus points for less corners!

Deadline will be sometime this Friday

    Good luck!

We start heading down the main straight, the track dips and rises quite heavily (due to the pit exit bridge) running towards turn 1. I tried to keep the first sector a bit more entertaining compared to the current circuit, with a few more corners heading up through the fields, we finish the first sector coming out of a tight right hand corner which leads to sector 2. Sector 2 uses much of the old circuit which has been modified to be much more flowing with many high speed corners testing the car’s aerodynamics.

Turn 14 (where the 4km mark is) is a strangely profiled corner where drivers will need to late apex to have a fast line for the last sector, this will open the door for overtakes, either on this corner if the driver takes a traditional line, or the next section if the driver is defensive. There’s a high speed left and right leading to a tight 90 degree bend, following with a combination of corners towards the end of the lap.

The pit lane starts on the second last corner joining the old pit lane road, and coming back on the the track there is a bridge that goes over the circuit to rejoin after the first corner.

Sorry for the short entry, and the jagged corners on my map, I’ve done this one on my phone.

Thank you everyone for your participation.

This week’s challenge goes to @philereid

Really nice redesign of Sebring which cuts out a few fiddly sections and turns it in to a flowing yet technical circuit

    Thanks @mathers !

With the current state of Formula one, many in the sport are looking at the past with rose tinted glasses. This week I want you to look back to the past as well and bring back a modified, and modernized version of a circuit which was once used but now is no longer on the calendar.

    Rules for this challenge are:

    – Must be an ex-F1 circuit
    – One lap must be less than 8km
    – Room for pit facilities
    – Adequate safety standards for modern racing

Bonus points awarded for working with lesser known tracks!

The deadline will be on Monday around noon GMT

    Have fun! :)

    French Grand Prix

Formula one is looking to move back to France, in particular Circuit de Charade. Described as a direct contrast to Monza providing a very technical circuit through the French countryside, the circuit was no longer used in the F1 calendar since the early 70’s. The track was downsized firstly after safety concerns where appropriate run off was not available. Since modern Formula 1 demands certain safety prerequisites, and the strange occurrence of the FIA requesting F1 race on a short track, the circuit was shortened once again to the 3km layout we see in the link below.

    3km

Turns 1 through to turn 3 are as the original circuit, but turn 3 dips down in to a natural valley and descends in to turn 4 and 5, the old turn 14, which is now a long right left corkscrew descending even further in to the valley. We climb up out of the valley as the road winds its way up the hill to the hairpin of turn 6 a corner with lots of natural camber and allows the cars to really move with alot of speed through it and back downhill with plenty of traction out of the corner. The track connects back up to the old final sector of the circuit which flows and rolls through the french country side.

Missed out on the last challenge, but I’m in early for this one!

With this I tried to add length to the circuit and keep it familiar not only as Hermanos Rodriguez but also capturing the feel of corners from other circuits, I also added the stadium section as was spoken of a while back providing an awesome viewing area… Hope you guys like it!

We start by heading west past the pits, we come over a crest in the road as we begin braking in to turn 1, the cars can get light and squirmy under brakes here, then a right-left-right 90 degree corner combo as we weave through the buildings and another right-left chicane much like one from the Montreal circuit because it opens up on the exit. We sweep through an easy S-bend and then hard on the brakes in to turn 9 before we head on to the original circuit using Curva Moises Solana to create an S bend which leads to an overtaking opportunity in the new hairpin of the Retomo section.
The second sector begins by flowing through the original Eses, momentum is the key so it doesnt disrupt you as you come in to the old Peraltada which becomes a very tight right hander which brings us in to the Foro Sol stadium providing a great view for the spectators as the cars weave through the tight Monaco-esque barriers and head down their way towards the third sector.
The track provides an odd feeling as it very closely mimics itself in the new esses section before slowing in to the two hairpins, although there is ample run off during the corners, between the bends it is as tight as possible with the trees giving the circuit an almost classical feel as it sweeps around on the new Peraltada leading on to the main straight.

The track runs alongside the parklands of Los Carmenes, has a technical section around and under Estadio Vicente Calderon, and goes over and back the river Rio Manzanares.
The pit paddock is fairly large taking over Parque de San Isidro, leaving plenty of room not only for F1 but also any supporting race series for the weekend.

Fun was definitely had scouting out the city on google maps, there are so many places you could put a track!
