For whoever might be interested, there’s an auction going on at the Austin Convention Center this weekend, and you can go check out the cars for sale (including 3 F1 cars, a 1977 shadow, a 1996 Benetton and 1998 Ferrari) and several other classic cars, tickets are $25. I’ll be going to that on Friday or Saturday afternoon, before hitting the Fan Fest, which will be very close by! Seems like a nice addition to a very motorsport-centric weekend!So, tickets arrived in the mail today, excited that the GP is only 2 weeks from now. I’ve mentioned this before, but now it seems that there’s more people checking in this forum. I purchased parking on Lot F, which is close to grandstands around the T12-T15 complex. I’ll be staying in downtown Austin, so if anyone wants to carpool and share parking costs, let me know. I can drive you back and forth the track to somewhere in downtown Austin (i’m staying near to where the FanFest is) during the weekend. Cheers!
COTA sent me this link with some exclusive hotel options… although they all sit on the higher price range ($300+), some of the hotels still have availability only through this site. Most have a minimum 3 night stay. Since I’ll only be able to stay 2 nights, my options were a bit more limited, so I’ll be staying at the Best Western Austin City, unless I manage to find a better deal until the race weekend.
@us-brian too bad that you only realized this now… I’m on the opposite situation, I have a car and the parking pass, but no one to split the cost of parking with (i’m going to the GP alone). Had you mentioned it before, we could have struck a deal to share the car/parking costs!
Turn12 seat, but will spend most of Friday and Saturday wandering around the GA areas for good photo spots! Also, since I’m going alone to the GP, I have 3 empty seats in my car to the track, and I could use some help splitting the costs of parking! I’ll be more than happy to give a ride from downtown Austin to the track (i’m in parking lot F).

I got parking lot F, which seemed to be the closest to the T12 entrance.
I saw the option of Motel6 in San Marcos, but it seemed to be a bit farther from the track, but since you say it is a good area, I’ll probably go for it now. I wanted some place closer to downtown Austin to be able to go to the FanFest, but it’s been difficult to find something for a reasonable price. I’ll book Motel6 in San Marcos to be safe and keep looking for something closer to Austin as the race approaches.

@budaman thanks mate! Just purchased my tickets for T12 GS. In the end, I preferred to purchase the $200 parking, because I read in a few places that the lines to take the shuttle buses back after the race were quite long, and my flight back to Chicago leaves a few hours after the race, so I couldn’t afford to run the risk of losing too much time waiting for the shuttles.
So, since I am going alone to the track in a rental car, if there is anyone going to the race who hasn’t figured out plans to get to the track and would like to split the costs of the parking, I’d be more than happy to carpool during the 3 days! Let me know if anyone is interested!
@budaman thanks for the tips Michael! I couldn’t find accommodation in downtown Austin for reasonable prices, so I will stay at Motel6 in North Austin, around 30 minutes from the track. But I managed to get a very good deal for a rental car. Since I can cancel the reservation until very close to the race weekend, I’ll keep looking for something a bit nearer to the track or downtown Austin.
You mentioned Lot Q parking is $60 for the weekend, but is it necessary to buy in advance, or do the parking lots work on a first come first serve basis? Ticketmaster is charging $200 for any parking lot on their website along with the tickets…
One final question, which seat do you think is better, turn 12 or turn 5? I was initially going for turn 12 due to the overtaking spot, but then I saw some videos of the cars on the fast bends of turn 3-4-5 from turn 5 seats, and it looked amazing. Since I can basically walk around all the GA areas to take pictures on Friday and Saturday, I don’t know which place is best to actually watch the race on Sunday. Any recommendations?Hello all, I’m finalizing my plans to go to the US GP this year. Probably going to buy tickets for turn 12, which seems to be a good section to see the cars in several turns. For those who have attended last year’s GP, I was wondering if tickets for the grandstands allow access to the other areas of the general admission tickets (I though it would be nice to spend Friday watching the practice sessions from other places to take some pictures). Also, what is the best option to get to the circuit from downtown Austin? I was planning to rent a car, but the parking tickets are quite expensive… is there a shuttle that takes people to the track from anywhere in the city (like the airport)? Thanks for any tips, this will be my second GP venue visit (I’m from Brazil and have been to the Brazilian GP several times, including last year!) Best
