    I’ve actually been very impressed by Vergne lately. I was never a big fan of him (just neutral) but I’m really glad that he didn’t go into full-time sulk-mode after missing out on the RB seat (I know many drivers who would have coped less well). He has simply kept his chin up and has driven hard. We know he got beaten by Ricciardo quite often in their stint together but Vergne did frequently outrace him on Sunday. This year he’s been in the top 10 most of the time, and I don’t think he gets enough credit for it. If I was in charge at RB (armchair guru here) and Vettel jumped ship I’d give Vergne a shot first and keep Kvyat (who’s doing an awesome job) marinading at TR for a little longer. Anyway, in order of likelihood at the present moment:

    1. Bottas – the Williams is potentially so fast, when do they string a perfect weekend together?
    2. Hulkenberg – obviously ready, but I feel like it’ll take a bold strategy and controlling race to get it done.
    3. Perez – bit of a loose canon, but is often surprisingly amongst the frontrunners
    4. Vergne – I can’t imagine Toro Rosso winning this year, but he could probably do it.
    5. Magnussen – Maybe not quite ready and McLaren is blowing hot and cold and more often cold.
    6. Grosjean – talent wasted at Lotus. They we’re saying big teams were sniffing around, but I’ve no clue who that could be.
    7. Kvyat – Not yet. I have faith though.
    the rest less than 1 percent chance.

    During winter testing. Lotus this year comes to mind. In theory they could have been realistic title contenders this year, but after losing so much personnel the writing was sort of on the wall. Their boastfulness during the winter kept many F1 fans believing (Maldonado not withstanding) that they might just pull it off this year, but once the car was (finally) on track it was clear that it was all over.

    That (black/chrome) West McLaren is very pretty indeed. I still can’t wrap my head around how you guys manage to manipulate the photos in such a convincing way.

    “The 2014 Ferrari leaked” – Real or fake?

    If true, that is a very neat nose there, and what an insane front wing (double endplates!).

    Edit: Upon further inspection of this drawing, I’m sure this is fake and probably way off the true look of the F14 T.

    But guys, we must not forget the significance of drivers running the same numbers for the rest of their time in F1. Of course there is no romance to (most of) them now; it is the first year they’re using them! Once one or more of the drivers go on to win races and championships, we’ll be talking about the legendary “6″ or “17″ or whatever. It doesn’t matter if the numbers are high or low, they’ll have to be given their weight by unfolding history. “5″ and “27″ are completely arbitrary numbers, but they mean something to F1 fans. One day we will be old and grey and be saying: “It’s just not like in my time anymore! Remember the good old “44″? That was a number! The kids nowadays just don’t have the same sense of meaning – they just pick whatever!”

    I don’t get the fear of #2. Number 2 driver? Really? 2 is such a strong number that could be made legendary by a good driver. If I’m correct Prost won 3 of his 4 WDCs driving car 2. That’s a start!

    Actually even more than that. More than 26 cars can participate in Q with the risk of DNQ. Pre-Q with the risk of DNPQ needs more cars than they can fit in Q and does not involve the teams that have a bye straight into normal Q.

    Yeah, if they were in that much trouble there would be talk of huge personell upsets… Like there are now…
    I’m not concluding anything and I hope they’re just bad rumors, but I’m just pointing out that you could argue there are signs.

    I wonder if the fact that the FIA has confirmed Max Chilton’s number (4) for this season means that they know that no driver that finished higher than him last year is going to get to choose a number? That would mean DIR, KOV, PIC, VDG confirmed out.
