[aside: a very quick comment about @andae’s Iceland challenge… one thing that I would love to see is an F1 car doing Route 1 West from Hvragerdi for about 5 kms… the hill was something else when I went up it on a bus last summer… on saying that, couldn’t be a circuit, there’s no (safe) way back down!]
6th October 2013, 14:41 at 2:41 pm #242584mildertduckParticipantHere’s the list:
(The #3 Penske was penalized entrant points for an infraction at Texas, so it’s different to Championship Points)
Also if you look at the Indycar race preview… it’s going to be another standing start!
5th October 2013, 18:49 at 6:49 pm #242576mildertduckParticipantThey qualified in the half hour slot previously allocated to warm up:
Group 1 (slower group, so even numbered grid slots): 5 minutes green, 7 minutes caution
Group 2 (faster group, so odd numbered slots): 12 minutes green. As you can see, Group 1 were disadvantaged.
5th October 2013, 18:43 at 6:43 pm #242574mildertduckParticipantThe first half of the field only got 5 minutes green flag time in qualifying due to Vautier’s accident – meaning some of them didn’t get a good lap in.
5th October 2013, 16:32 at 4:32 pm #242566mildertduckParticipantOk, so Power is currently in the lead of qualifying as Vautier crashes into the barriers at Turn 10…
1st September 2013, 10:50 at 10:50 am #240416mildertduckParticipantAlthough F1 has some bad corners, the last corner at the Baltimore Indycar circuit really takes some beating for being horrible: http://youtu.be/VCgtFcqWlyg?t=39s
And what happens when it goes wrong: http://youtu.be/T8W8J1IiMik?t=1m15s
Yes, I know they need to slow cars down for the tramlines, but there must be a more elegant way of doing it!
15th August 2013, 0:09 at 12:09 am #220433mildertduckParticipantI decided to go for a somewhat longer entry, with two deviations off the current track (you could probably have the original as a National Circuit, as well as a couple of other variations using part of the extended layout.

I tried to keep to the fast and flowing nature of the course, along with the interesting geography. If I’ve read my map correctly, the tight corner near (what I assume to be a dirt-bike track) will be uphill similar to Turn 1 at Austin, before dropping away and rising again to an off gradient chicane near the 4km point. At least that’s what I hope it is! I suspect the top of the mound would be an excellent vantage point!
4th August 2013, 14:01 at 2:01 pm #239720mildertduckParticipantLooking forward to this one… hoping I’ve worked the times out correctly and it’s at 8pm UK time?
31st July 2013, 21:37 at 9:37 pm #220362mildertduckParticipantHere’s mine:

Probably a bit more Indycar than F1, if I’m honest – I’m claiming 14 corners, although none of my “straights” are very straight. The pit lane is sited to the south of the small athletics track, in what looks like a truck park – I’d see the athletics track area becoming very much a premium area for the Russian Oil Magnates to view the race, as well as upping the status of the athletics facility. I’d suggest the main overtaking points would be at the exit of the first bridge, and the entrance to the second.
23rd July 2013, 11:30 at 11:30 am #239232mildertduckParticipantThat new pitlane entry looks long…
21st July 2013, 12:21 at 12:21 pm #220331mildertduckParticipantHere’s my entry:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6012406I decided to head up into the hills, heading through a few fast kinks on existing public roads. It’s run the same way as the existing track, at 5.7km. Aiming for a driver’s circuit, with a couple of good overtaking opportunities, and a hairpin at the end of the lap.
12th July 2013, 22:42 at 10:42 pm #238733mildertduckParticipantWatching qualifying on NBCSN at the moment… my question is why did they not throw the red immediately – if they had, there would have been time for everyone to do another lap… just. RHR misses out from the Fast 6…
22nd June 2013, 1:05 at 1:05 am #220255mildertduckParticipantAbout time I entered one of these, really…
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5977847 – Brackley, around the Mercedes factory.
Clockwise – on the main straight (North-West), the pit lane follows the smaller road, the main road being the track, so the last complex looks a bit like a reversed version of the old Spa bus stop. (Of course, if they were really going to make this, the pits would probably have to be somewhere near the sewage works, as to put an F1 paddock there would involve removing most of Brackley town centre!)
12th June 2013, 8:36 at 8:36 am #237460mildertduckParticipantNot entirely sure that this is sensible, given I got the game 3 weeks ago, but what the hell…. I suspect the best place to put me would be the Virgin or the HRT, mind!
