@RobertoLarcos
I’m from Canada and Montreal was my first race! It was awesome! However, I’ve been to Montreal many times and it’s still awesome, but no longer a novelty. What were the other six races you attended that you’re comparing Montreal? I’m wondering what race I should attend next…4th June 2012, 4:24 at 4:24 am #181161MRPiGoiLParticipantYah, the cancellation of Thursday is sad…….. I have such strong opinions against these students that I won’t bother posting here as it’s just completely off-topic.
But I spent some extra money to be in Montreal earlier specifically for Thursday morning and other arrangements that now were all for nothing. Oh well, hopefully, the city is still as vibrant and safe as I was there several years ago.
25th April 2012, 3:28 at 3:28 am #181125MRPiGoiLParticipantQuestion #2: For Thursday – do we need to pre-register to visit? Or limited first-come first-serve? Or pretty much as long as we have GS tickets, we can go on Thursday? I can’t find details about this. Thanks all!
21st April 2012, 7:18 at 7:18 am #181123MRPiGoiLParticipantQuestion: Are roller blades allowed instead of walking? I’m not thinking of it for the crowded race day, but intent is for the other days with less people such as on Friday to go around the circuit to spectate at different sections.
21st March 2012, 5:04 at 5:04 am #181066MRPiGoiLParticipantHey Jenny, thanks! I hope it’ll be an awesome time too! Remember to get some hearing protection for your kid(s). When I saw Drew Brees’ kid wear them after the Super Bowl win a couple years ago, I got it for my first child. I now shake my head each time I see parents bringing their kids to concerts and movies, and just loud events without any protection for their little ones! I bought the same ones Drew Brees used: http://www.earplugstore.com/ear-muffs-for-children.html My 1-year old actually loved wearing it blocking the noise :)
20th January 2012, 17:49 at 5:49 pm #181062MRPiGoiLParticipantFor those picky about seating, searching youtube videos from previous attendees helped me out in terms of what it would look like in certain sections.
I chose Senna Curve over the Hairpin because I heard the crowd at the Hairpin is quite different from the Senna Curve crowd (Hairpin, younger, rowdy, more drunk; Senna Curve older, more sober, and quiet). And the fact that I want to see the start/finish without sacrificing seeing/hearing the braking and acceleration. it should be good!!
20th January 2012, 17:45 at 5:45 pm #181100MRPiGoiLParticipanthm, i just thought of another tip, but i’ll post in the seating section.
20th January 2012, 17:45 at 5:45 pm #181099MRPiGoiLParticipantBetter or worse is a subjective thing because you might prefer to sit high up to get more of a bird’s eye view of the action and not “as” noisy. For others, they want to be as close to the track as possible to “feel” the sound vibrate through their bodies.
It’s my first GP too, so it’s all a guess, but I did a lot of research for my section (Senna Curve) and sharing my discovery with Jenny and the forum (she seemed like she wanted to be close to the track, and in fact, she wouldn’t be). Lucky I researched too, because at Senna Curve, I wanted to see the Start, and also see the cars battle for position at turn 1 and 2. Previous years, there’s always action here! See and hear the braking, turning, and acceleration to a short straight. Well, if I didn’t research, there’s some trees in some sections that block the view of start/finish line and further away from the turns, so those folks in those seats would end up seeing pretty much the cars accelerating toward them a bit and not see the start/finish.
Another thing to consider is that if you sit too close, say, first 5 rows (I don’t know), you’re below the fence in most sections I think, so your view is somewhat obstructed I’m told.
You know what though, I think as first GP, no matter what, it’s going to be a BLAST!!!
19th January 2012, 5:23 at 5:23 am #181097MRPiGoiLParticipantJenny, when I researched seating for this circuit, I discovered that their seating numbers are not normal. At this track, they unusually start AA as the first row (closest to track) and goes upward from there (so, AA to ZZ, then continues to A, B, C, etc). So you’re like row 30 something. If you want to be close to the track, then you might want to call in to have your tickets changed.
another tip is that from the track looking at the stands, you count from left to right for section and seat numbers

It’s my first GP too, but I’ve been to Montreal many times for both leisure and business. A couple times during Jazz Festival and Comedy Festival. Downtown and Old Montreal are the places you want to be. I can only imagine GP in town, atmosphere must be even better. Everything is within walking distance and use the subway. The costs are justified a bit when factoring in car rental/gas/parking/insurance/valet, or taxi fares, when living far away, and the traffic jams will be abundant and parking limited. Of course, the limited time you have there, spending it in the car driving/parking would blow a couple of my emotional fuses :)
That’s my two cents with previous experience in this city.
8th November 2011, 1:33 at 1:33 am #181041MRPiGoiLParticipantBooked directly by calling Admission.com agent.
8th November 2011, 1:32 at 1:32 am #181033MRPiGoiLParticipantI’ve booked Hotel St Denis. Not a hotel I’d normally book, even though 8 months away from Grand Prix, I snooze, I lose. I couldn’t find availability for the hotels i wanted and others are way too far away or way too expensive. I don’t mind paying for hotels and stay comfortably, but the prices are simply unaffordable for me… Hope this hotel is not bad. Reviews say it’s pretty clean and for this trip i don’t mind having no amenities. it’s close to a main Metro hub that takes you to the circuit directly without transferring, and close walk to Old Montreal. Should be a good time.
8th November 2011, 1:29 at 1:29 am #181061MRPiGoiLParticipantit was a coin toss, but i booked GS 11 Section 6 Row A. I pray that the damn trees are not in the way of seeing the start/finish and some of the pits. based on some youtube videos of section 6, people could still see but i think depends where on the row.
3rd November 2011, 5:58 at 5:58 am #181060MRPiGoiLParticipantHm, it seems many people like the hairpin… Oh man… what to do…hairpin or Senna corner
3rd November 2011, 5:53 at 5:53 am #181089MRPiGoiLParticipantMan, I’m pretty excited now and it’s still 8 months away and i haven’t booked anything yet! Should I fly in on Wednesday evening or Thursday evening? Pretty sure to leave Sunday evening.
