Lots of drivers spray girls. Hamilton just made it look rough and that was unwise due to the overbearing tv audiences these days. The girl was okay with it, but they will just say she is a victim of politics. So the bottom line is that drivers have to be more thoughtful when they are doing things on global tv these days. Spray at the girls, but don’t put the bottle right against their head and do it.

How are you going to have a Greatest Champion of all Time until they retire? As they retire they can be considered. Until then, they are all just great F1 champs. Next is anybody’s guess. Who will get promoted or have a good car next? Then they will get to try. Kvyat and Ricciardo have a top car that is under performing and Massa & Bottas has a car that is on the rise, so of those four non-champions it could be any. Also, Nico has a championship car now, and he is in battle for it, so he could be next if he hops on it.

Lewis does and says things that invite criticism. For example, he tweeted the team’s telemetry; he lied to the stewards; he had his car towed out of gravel and kept driving; he runs to the press and lies about his teammates (Jenson unfriended him; Nico said he hit him on purpose); he lies about his co-drivers to make himself look good (Alonso and Seb asked for #1 status so they are unfair, but he is fair); he says true things about others that he has no business talking about (Nico’s life growing up); he makes comments without thinking of the consequences (‘monkeys at the back’).

Those are some of the reasons he gets so much criticism. Also there are the ignorant reasons like prejudice, jealousy, how he dresses or talks, his off track interests, etc. It is unfair to criticize him for those things or those reasons, but some will do that. Those criticisms are easy for me to ignore. But he deserves criticism for the things in the first paragraph in my view.

Red Bull colors are the best to me. Maybe being a FC Barcelona fan has something to do with it, but I took to them right away. Also really dig Wiliams new livery with that Martini strip. Ferrari red is growing on me as is the Mercedes livery.

@Iestyn Davies. I disagree with your spec prediction. Firstly, Alonso tends to lose it a bit under pressure and Hamilton can get inconsistent – as we saw last season with the qualifying. He could outrace Nico, but that would not be the case with Vettel or Alonso, Raikkonen or Button in spec cars. Alonso would have to hold it together – which is not impossible, but head to heads tend to see him in situations like Germany 2010 or Abu Dhabi 2010 or USA 2012, etc. So it is questionable. I am not sold on Vettel having more trouble than any other driver. He’s been through a couple of reg changes now and only had an issue in this past season. I recall Alonso having a terrible time of it in 2009, it is just that his teammate was worse – but considering who it was, what do you expect. Raikkonen had a rough season, but it was so extraordinary, I don’t know what to make of it. I don’t think that comes into play in spec cars. All the champions on the grid would be at one another’s throats. Plus I think you would see others like Rosberg, Bottas, Ricciardo, Hulkenberg, Grosjean, Perez, Kvyat and perhaps others mixing it up if it were a spec series. What would there be to hold any of them back? We’ve seen Hamilton take care of Alonso, but we’ve also seen Button show Hamilton who was boss. We’ve seen Vettel take care of Hamilton and Alonso, and visa versa. We saw Hulkenberg taking care of a number of champions in Abu Dhabi 2012 when he had a car that took to the track, etc. and all of that even when the other guy is faster. And Ricciardo and Bottas put on the show last season taking care of all kinds of drivers. So I don’t buy into this Alonso-Hamilton show. I think there are many drivers that are equal to the task, all things equal.

Alonso: “Time will tell us,” he says. “There are many years [to go in his career].

“He is 26 years old, so when he will have a car like the others, if he wins, he will have a great recognition and be one of the legends in F1. When one day he has a car like the others and he is fourth, fifth, seventh, these four titles will be bad news for him because people will take these four titles even in a worse manner than they are doing now. “So there are interesting times for Sebastian coming.”

Alonso was just saying this to play games. He knows Vettel will do worse in a poor car like all drivers – and he wants to encourage negative talk against the boy who beat him to 2 titles. But in the end, every driver is earning their titles with hard work and talent. I do not “take” any drivers titles worse based on how they do in another year. Not in any sport. Most fans don’t. You always hope your team or your driver does well the next time even if they have a bad year.

I don’t consider him the best driver on the grid. I think he is 1 among several that are all top of the line – basically all of the champions that have proven themselves over time. The group waiting to step up include Rosberg and Massa. There are other good drivers that show a lot of promise, but they have not been in F1 long enough to make their mark yet.

That said, Alonso has made some bad choices, but that is part of the game. Drivers are not psychics and they have to make the best with what they have. He rather messed it up at McLaren, but Ferrari was his next great chance. I don’t know how much he contributed to the state they are in off track, but on track he pushed the equipment they gave him and didn’t hurt his reputation. Unfortunately, nobody remembers reputations or doing things like beating other drivers and getting the car in unexpected positions. What they remember is championships. So hopefully Alonso’s try at McLaren pays off.
