Red Andy commented on the post, Ecclestone tips BMW to join Honda in F1 return 1 day, 11 hours ago
It would be nice, but I’m sceptical until we see concrete announcements. The new engine formula isn’t bringing manufacturers flocking back as promised. The original proposals might have been better.

Red Andy commented on the post, Ferrari join Lotus in criticising tyre revisions 4 days, 9 hours ago
True. Like the three-stopper which won him the Hungarian GP of 1998, the pit strategy was only part of the story. It was the incredible pace he kept up, lap after lap, that handed him both of those victories.

Red Andy commented on the post, Ferrari join Lotus in criticising tyre rules change 4 days, 12 hours ago
Good points made by our anonymous Horse Whisperer. Surprising, though, that it didn’t mention the obvious political intent of the rule change, which is to help Red Bull. Normally our anonymous correspondent isn’t […]

Red Andy commented on the post, Honda confirm F1 return with McLaren in 2015 5 days, 11 hours ago
The McLaren-Mercedes partnership has been reported to have been in trouble for at least four years now. That’s why Mercedes bought up their own team rather than increasing their stake in McLaren, as might have […]

Red Andy commented on the post, Honda confirm F1 return with McLaren in 2015 5 days, 11 hours ago
Yeah, then Honda can ditch them halfway through a contract, sending the team into a terminal decline, and it’ll be just like the mid-2000s all over again!

Red Andy commented on the post, Caterham fined after Van der Garde loses wheel 1 week, 2 days ago
Caterham acted dangerously twice: once by failing to ensure that the wheel was properly attached in the pits, and again by instructing van der Garde to drive back to the pits rather than pull over immediately. We […]

Red Andy commented on the post, Hamilton doesn’t want another race like that 1 week, 2 days ago
Mercedes should be pretty embarrassed with themselves. To be so quick on Saturday and nowhere in the race has to be about more than tyre wear. There are serious questions to be asked at that team.

Red Andy commented on the post, Marussia heading for Ferrari engine deal – Symonds 2 weeks, 4 days ago
Only three engine suppliers will be a serious problem for F1. Ten years ago we had seven or eight. What if one more drops out? It doesn’t say much for the pinnacle of motorsport if the overwhelming majority of the […]

Red Andy commented on the post, Rate the race: 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix 1 month ago
The winner was a foregone conclusion as soon as Pirelli changed the tyre allocation at the eleventh hour. Some nice racing down the field, but DRS spoiled many potentially good battles and Pirelli’s politicking […]

Red Andy commented on the post, FIA disables telemetry link again in Bahrain 1 month ago
So will drivers be allowed to use DRS under yellow flags again?

Red Andy commented on the post, Hamilton expects “tough weekend” for Mercedes 1 month ago
To me he seems a bit more likeable since he’s left McLaren. I can’t imagine the Lewis of a couple of years ago being so good-humoured about his pit lane mishap in Malaysia, for instance.

Red Andy commented on the post, Pirelli: Most teams support aggressive tyres 1 month ago
Hembery’s comments don’t square with the fact that they’ve changed the tyre allocation for Bahrain at the eleventh hour.
We know who that benefits. Blue car, big angry cow on the side.
I tend to agree that […]

Red Andy commented on the post, Eight drivers escape penalties for using DRS 1 month, 1 week ago
the only point among those that is remotely mitigating is the first one; since we don’t know when the offences were committed, we don’t know if it was applicable.
The drivers are responsible for their own DRS […]

Red Andy commented on the post, Eight drivers escape penalties for using DRS 1 month, 1 week ago
It’s not as though DRS is automatic. The drivers have to press that button to activate it, and they’re not allowed to do so when yellow flags are shown. They all know (or ought to know) this, so ignorance is not […]

Red Andy commented on the post, FIA telemetry problems persist in China 1 month, 1 week ago
They should just disable DRS entirely until the problem is fixed :)

Red Andy commented on the post, Hamilton wary of threat from Raikkonen and Alonso 1 month, 1 week ago
True, but it’s a long season, and McLaren have shown (eg 2009) that they can turn an uncompetitive car into a race winner by the end of the season. Mercedes have consistently gone backwards over the season every […]

Red Andy commented on the post, Webber sent to the back of the grid over fuel error 1 month, 1 week ago
To be fair to Red Bull, at least they admitted their error, unlike when McLaren did the same thing in Spain and tried to pretend that Hamilton had a problem with his car.

Red Andy commented on the post, Soft tyre’s short life poses strategic conundrum 1 month, 1 week ago
They tested in Bahrain until a couple of years ago, owing to the warmer winter temperatures, although the present political situation makes it pretty unlikely that teams would want to return there, other than for […]

Red Andy commented on the post, Webber: Quitting over Malaysia ‘certainly not in mind’ 1 month, 1 week ago
@keithcollantine My post wasn’t a criticism of your editorial choices, more an expression of frustration that this is one of the few things of note to have happened in the last three weeks. The pre-race press […]

Red Andy commented on the post, Webber: Quitting over Malaysia ‘certainly not in mind’ 1 month, 1 week ago
This is getting more boring than people moaning about the Pirelli tyres. Has anyone’s opinion on the situation actually changed since the dust settled in Malaysia? Does this constant rehashing of the same incident […]
