Got an email this week with new security measures this year. Among the changes are “Spectators arriving at the booth with a cooler or a backpack with authorized dimension (see article 5), a photographer ,travel bag or a metallic case for photographic equipment will have to, before passing through the turnstiles, submit these articles for examination. To accelerate the process, signs will indicate where to go”. Monopods and tripods are listed under “prohibited objects on-site”. Glad I read this before Friday, will leave my monopod at home. Something must have been lost in the translation since drones are prohibited, but “aircraft of type iPod” and “Rollaway Beds” are listed among Authorized Objects on-site. In accordance with a new law in Quebec, smoking is prohibited in the stands and terraces. Not sure how they’ll enforce that one. Full text here

Well I guess I’ll answer my own question, much of the popular grandstand 2 sight lines are blocked by grandstand 34, and no view of the video screen. popular grandstand 2
    Hopefully this picture will load.

I see they’ve added another “popular” grandstand (“popular 2”). Looking at the map it looks like it faces the other popular grandstand I wonder if grandstand 34 will block the sight lines to the hair pin?. Anyone have experience with the general admission grandstand from last year? How early do you have to show up to get a decent seat?

Watching the qualifying on TV, went to the pit walk on Thursday and practice yesterday, still editing the pictures I took, but uploaded some to flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/ray_francoeur/sets/72157634006955297
I’m in the West end of Montreal, looks like the weather is clearing a little, hopefully it will clear up at the track before the end of Q1
