I really, really liked that! I didn’t mind the pitstops at all and (luckily) didn’t notice the fanboost. They need to stop playing music throughout the race though, if anything it’s emphasising the lack of sound the cars produce instead of covering it up. The racing was good, but the cars will need to get faster the next couple of seasons. And the cars look fantastic, way better than modern Formula 1 cars! The high noses are a ridiculous choice though, we’re stuck with those butt-ugly noses in F1 because the FIA wants the nosetip to be down lower and then they design these cars with high noses? Right.

And was Prost trying to commit murder? Was genuinely worried about Heidfeld there, that crash looked serious.

Can’t wait for the next race.

Has to be the McLaren MP4-20. Something about the black livery, the horns on the engine cover and the fact that it was so incredibly fast makes it almost evil-looking. It’s what a Formula 1 car should look like to me.

Besides that, I always liked the Brawn.

Alonso on Perez at the outside of Rivage on lap 13. Made me pause and rewind.

    They should. So they won’t.

Don’t forget about the removal of the beam wing and the narrower front wing, less surface to generate downforce is hard to claw back.

Different weight distribution than today’s cars, perhaps less room at the back to add weight to get it up to the weight limit: remember 2009′s cars were quite a bit shorter because of refueling. The Brawn had ballast in the tip of the nose to keep the centre of gravity low.

However, we can’t be sure they made the “right” decision with the low nose, in fact, looking at how desperately teams wanted a high nose in years after, I think the Brawn nose was “wrong”. Other aspects of the car were good enough to compensate, but the Red Bull was probably more aerodynamically effient as we’ve seen in the latter part of the season.

It must be said Kinnunen just barely beat Carlos Reutemann, who used his open-face helmet in the 1974 Spanish Grand Prix… I think he also wore it at that year’s Race of Champions.

Most drivers switched during the 1970 season, so did Rindt for instance, you can look up pictures of the 1970 season for proof.

However, the last open-face helmet was used as late as 1974, by Leo Kinnunen, who started just one Grand Prix, the Swedish GP of that year. Here’s a picture: http://richardsf1.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/image70.png

As long as the team is being sold it’s not that bad. We don’t want less teams competing next year though.

Just ordered “The Death of Ayrton Senna” by Williams, the Ecclestone biography by Watkins and “Remembering Elio”, a hardcover book with pictures about the life of Elio De Angelis.

Probably the best looking open-wheel chassis in this day and age.

Since the championshop was a whole lot closer and the cars were faster, 2003 easily wins this.

    Gilles Villeneuve or Ronnie Peterson?

As a driver, Raikkonen easily. When it comes to the quotes, Webber’s wins.

    Mansell’s 1992 championship or Prost’s 1993 championship?

Active suspension, makes the car visibly faster and I think it takes away less skill from the driver than traction control does. Besides, the latter sounds terrible; the sound of traction control would probably a whole lot louder than the v6 engines now.

    Jochen Rindt or Jacky Ickx?
