Schumacher, Prost, Senna, Clark, Rindt

26th October 2014, 9:32 at 9:32 am #280252RoaldParticipantStill, there’s some valid points. Audi fighting Porsche in WEC is pretty useless because they’re both brands belonging to the Volkswagen Group. Besides, what does Audi have left to prove in endurance racing? They’ve already won Le Mans numerous times. It would be a disasted for DTM though…
I know it’s just speculation and rumours…

17th October 2014, 20:03 at 8:03 pm #279432RoaldParticipantSo everyone decided to sum up regulation changes to the cars that Ecclestone has no control of? That’s what the FIA does, ever since the first concorde agreement was signed.
13th October 2014, 22:54 at 10:54 pm #278705RoaldParticipantAgree with Vergne on Magnussen. Would’ve liked to see him at Red Bull instead of Kvyat tbh.
27th September 2014, 5:38 at 5:38 am #276181RoaldParticipantI hate it when people try to convince others of Button’s speed by mentioning his points tally compared to Hamilton during their time as teammates. Button’s not nearly as fast as Hamilton and I dom’t consider him a top driver. He’s talented and fast and he deservedly won his championship, but I think it’s just one of those situations where all the stars aligned and he happened to be the faster of the two drivers racing the fastest car by a mile during the first half of the season. To everyone who thinks the points comparison is a valid argument, do you think Scheckter was faster than Gilleneuve because he beat his teammate to the championship?
13th September 2014, 13:04 at 1:04 pm #274536RoaldParticipantI really, really liked that! I didn’t mind the pitstops at all and (luckily) didn’t notice the fanboost. They need to stop playing music throughout the race though, if anything it’s emphasising the lack of sound the cars produce instead of covering it up. The racing was good, but the cars will need to get faster the next couple of seasons. And the cars look fantastic, way better than modern Formula 1 cars! The high noses are a ridiculous choice though, we’re stuck with those butt-ugly noses in F1 because the FIA wants the nosetip to be down lower and then they design these cars with high noses? Right.
And was Prost trying to commit murder? Was genuinely worried about Heidfeld there, that crash looked serious.
Can’t wait for the next race.
30th August 2014, 18:09 at 6:09 pm #272670RoaldParticipantHas to be the McLaren MP4-20. Something about the black livery, the horns on the engine cover and the fact that it was so incredibly fast makes it almost evil-looking. It’s what a Formula 1 car should look like to me.
Besides that, I always liked the Brawn.
26th August 2014, 0:31 at 12:31 am #271986RoaldParticipantAlonso on Perez at the outside of Rivage on lap 13. Made me pause and rewind.
22nd July 2014, 17:32 at 5:32 pm #267814RoaldParticipantThey should. So they won’t.
21st June 2014, 16:18 at 4:18 pm #263839RoaldParticipantDon’t forget about the removal of the beam wing and the narrower front wing, less surface to generate downforce is hard to claw back.
19th June 2014, 8:34 at 8:34 am #263386RoaldParticipantDifferent weight distribution than today’s cars, perhaps less room at the back to add weight to get it up to the weight limit: remember 2009’s cars were quite a bit shorter because of refueling. The Brawn had ballast in the tip of the nose to keep the centre of gravity low.
However, we can’t be sure they made the “right” decision with the low nose, in fact, looking at how desperately teams wanted a high nose in years after, I think the Brawn nose was “wrong”. Other aspects of the car were good enough to compensate, but the Red Bull was probably more aerodynamically effient as we’ve seen in the latter part of the season.
19th June 2014, 8:22 at 8:22 am #263383RoaldParticipantIt must be said Kinnunen just barely beat Carlos Reutemann, who used his open-face helmet in the 1974 Spanish Grand Prix… I think he also wore it at that year’s Race of Champions.
19th June 2014, 8:01 at 8:01 am #263381RoaldParticipantMost drivers switched during the 1970 season, so did Rindt for instance, you can look up pictures of the 1970 season for proof.
However, the last open-face helmet was used as late as 1974, by Leo Kinnunen, who started just one Grand Prix, the Swedish GP of that year. Here’s a picture: http://richardsf1.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/image70.png
