I ordered through Option B and I got my tickets about a month ago here in the States. I ordered far enough back to get the early bird special.

Found the official schedule. I did a pretty good job guessing. :-)

There is indeed a Porsche race — the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Thus, based on their website, I updated the schedule. I also adjusted some of the other session end times based on this new information. Therefore, until the official weekend schedule comes out, this is probably pretty darn close. Close enough to make your plans…

Yeah, I figured times got updated since you posted. Especially since there was that conflict you found with GP3 and F1 qualifying.

I know the Aussie V8s are not there. Would have loved to have seen them, but I am happy both GP series are there. (BTW, Aussie V8s are not returning to Texas next year. It was too expensive to hold that race and they didn’t get the crowd needed to make it profitable.)

The schedule @pt747 put together, isn’t the one I found when looking at the various sites. Here is what I have based on local Abu Dhabi time with session end times my guesstimates.

formula1.com has the F1 session start times. I, too, have been looking for a complete weekend schedule with the support races, but have not found it.

I do plan on contacting my hotel. Or shall I say choices of hotels. Also, I’ve been checking into the package deals travel agents are offering in order to find out which hotels they are arranging shuttle busses for. Right now, the package deals won’t sell me just a shuttle bus ride. So, I plan on contacting those hotels to see if they will sell me a circuit transfer separately if I stay in their hotel. I’ve got time to figure something out.

Boy, the hoops I had to jump through to finally get my ticket…

I decided to use the official Yas Marina ticket site (interestingly, Option A they point you to is the Goo Tickets site which the F1.com site also points you to, while Option B is their own ticketing site). The reason wasn’t just what people said above, but also because you had more freedom picking the area you want to sit in.

Well, initially it kept rejecting my credit card. The first time when I got home, I had a message waiting for me from the fraud department of my bank. Good grief! But, even after getting that straightened out, it still rejected my cards. So, I called, and they tried, even picked out the exact seat I wanted (last row, aisle seat), but it wouldn’t go through. They then realized the servers were down.

Now on my third day trying, and the last day for the early bird special, and it still wouldn’t work. I called again. They said their servers were down again. I mentioned this was the last day for the early bird special and “You need to get your servers back up.” They said it was too late for the early bird special…

So, that Friday night, I decided to stay up till midnight my time, which was right when the ticket office would open in UAE time. I jumped onto the net, and sure enough, the early bird special still showed up. I grabbed a ticket, and the card went through and got charged the discounted rate.

When I woke up in the morning, which was still the same day for UAE, for laughs I went on their site again. The early bird was no longer available. Somehow I snuck in…

I don’t trust the accuracy of the seat assigment because it didn’t match up when I called that first time. Nonetheless, I know I am in the Upper South Grandstand in Section S-08. I might not be as high in that section that I would like to be, but it appears the grandstands aren’t that large anyway. As long as I’m in the upper section I’m okay.

So, for those of you in the Upper South Grandstand, if you see someone with at least for one of the days a Watkins Glen related shirt (since that is my “home” track) and most likely an unofficial Austin F1 hat, that will be me.

Thanks everyone for your advice and tips over the past few days.

Now, I have to figure out how I am going to get to the track from Dubai. It sounds like taxis are going to be expensive (though I read somewhere the thing to do is to agree on a fixed price before you get in the taxi), and I don’t want to rent a car. Maybe I can find other folks in my hotel that are going to share a cab ride…

Where did people buy their tickets from? I know of a few options, but was curious which ones people had good experiences with.

It looks like I will be in Dubai the weekend of the Grand Prix. With only a few days to get the early bird discount…

It appears the two top grandstand choices are West and South. Has anyone stayed in both? If so, which was better?

And for those who have been there before, does the new General Admission area (infield opposite North Grandstand) appear to be a worthwhile choice?
