Motoracing fans used to spout this a lot, the connotations being clear: “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.” Ernest Hemingway View

    The challenge is to do both of course….

    Reading between the lines a bit, it sounds like the problem is that the teams have put so much time and effort (and money) into channelling the exhaust gasses over the diffuser to generate downforce that they’ve […]

    Prisoner Monkeys commented on the post, Bungling the tyre row will give F1 a tainted title fight 12 hours, 24 minutes ago

    I suspect that, once again, the reality of the situation lies somewhere between the two extremes. Teams will naturally push for whatever outcome they think is best for them, and as we have seen in the past, they […]

    Common sense prevails!

    Who would have thought that it would come from the FIA?

    @liambo

    If I were Ferrari and Lotus I wouldn’t even bother showing up in Canada.

    Ordinarily I’d say they’d be in breach of contact by doing that and would have to pay Ecclestone but as the Concorde Agreement […]

    Ferrari did win the next eight races after the Michelin rules change; I didn’t say anything about them all being in the same season.

    @timothykatz Tyre supplier contracts are three-year deals and Pirelli’s initial deal is up for renewal this year.

    @lite992 The tyres were changed during the last few seasons and that wasn’t perceived to have affected the championship. There’s no reason why that should have to be the case this year. As long as we have one tyre […]

    I agree, the delamination problem needs to be fixed though, as it could prove very dangerous.

    Keith Collantine wrote a new post, Bungling the tyre row will give F1 a tainted title fight 18 hours, 29 minutes ago

    ThumbnailLast week’s Spanish Grand Prix was the 44th race since Formula One switched tyre suppliers to Pirelli. That marked the start of the era of ‘designed to degrade’ tyres which has shaped the race ever since.

    The […]

    Prisoner Monkeys commented on the post, FIA wades into tyre row with safety ruling 21 hours, 55 minutes ago

    @julian – The problem in 2011 was not that the FIA changed the regulations in the middle of the season. The problem was the way the teams agreed to it, and then tried to worm their way out of it.

    The idea of […]

    Mike commented on the post, Boullier criticises Pirelli tyre tweaks 1 day, 2 hours ago

    @robbie

    1. Delamination and tire wear are two separate problems. Don’t confuse them.

    2. What the teams say is good for the sport isn’t necessarily what’s good for the sport.

    3. Neither of us can know […]

    @vettel1 – It’s because the ERS devices are actually going to weigh quite a bit. KERS currently weighs about 20kg, and that’s going to be completely revised for 2014 so that it is constantly providing power. On […]
