Alex commented on the post, 2013 Spanish Grand Prix result 1 week ago
Is that based on their drives today, or their reputations?
Hamilton’s car was capable of 6th place. That’s what Rosberg achieved. The reason he was so far down was his inability to adapt and ‘feel’ his car – to […]

I agree that the race was a bit boring, but what you’re remembering isn’t what I saw on my screen.
I saw the opening laps with Rosberg heading the field, and then Vettel made a great move to get past him. […]

Alex commented on the post, Brawn: Team orders ‘against my sporting nature’ 1 month, 1 week ago
But what if Vettel and Webber had forced each other off the track? One of them could easily have lost 10 seconds in a spin or taken damage to their wing… the smart thing to do is have your drivers ready to take advantage.

Alex commented on the post, Hamilton: ‘Red Bull have a number one, we don’t’ 1 month, 3 weeks ago
It’s not a good comeback when it’s contradicted by the evidence.
Last weekend, Red Bull ordered Vettel to hold position behind Webber. This is evidence that they cared about getting both cars home more than […]

Looks like Vettel’s slow getaway on lap 32 cost him 0.7s at the most. It looked sloppy but didn’t make that much of a difference.

Alex commented on the post, 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix lap times and fastest laps 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Personally I’d love it if none of the pit stop laps were included at all (or alternatively, if there was an option for this). I’m not sure how easy that would be to produce, though.
The chart already says “very […]

Alex commented on the post, Hamilton says Rosberg should have been on podium 1 month, 3 weeks ago
@5150, you’ve missed the point. I’m not talking about what the team’s decision should have been.
I’m saying, given that Hamilton was in front and the team wanted him to stay in front, he would have been crazy […]

Alex commented on the post, Hamilton says Rosberg should have been on podium 1 month, 3 weeks ago
@red-andy, I disagree on two counts.
Mercedes – I believe they acted today to maximise Hamilton’s points as #1 driver. On this basis if the positions had been reversed, they would have let Hamilton race, […]

Alex commented on the post, Hamilton says Rosberg should have been on podium 1 month, 3 weeks ago
1. Most people believe that Hamilton is a better bet than Rosberg for the WDC. Therefore it makes sense (taking the long view) to have Hamilton finish first.
2. Hamilton was ahead because he performed better in […]

Alex commented on the post, Hamilton says Rosberg should have been on podium 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I agree that this reflects really well on Hamilton. He knows exactly what happened and he’s speaking the truth.
I don’t think it looks so great for Brawn. During the race they told Nico that Hamilton “could go […]

I believe Mercedes think Hamilton is a better bet than Rosberg, and therefore they want to focus all their efforts on him.
Why do you think Brawn made the decision?

Alex commented on the post, Webber: Vettel will be ‘protected’ in team orders row 1 month, 3 weeks ago
@eggry – here’s another way of looking at it. When Webber ignored team orders in 2011, he wasn’t punished (or at least, not publicly). If Vettel is publically punished, wouldn’t that be double standards?
I do […]

Alex commented on the post, Webber: Vettel will be ‘protected’ in team orders row 1 month, 3 weeks ago
@jakehardyf1 – that’s not true.
At Silverstone in 2011, Webber tried to overtake, but failed. In his own words, “I ignored the team and I was battling to the end.”
Vettel has taken exactly the same decision […]

You seem to be suggesting that Brawn didn’t think Hamilton was mature enough to cope with being overtaken. If that was the case, I don’t think he’d have hired him.
I suspect it was hard-headed points […]

Alex commented on the post, Rate the race: 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix 1 month, 3 weeks ago
@matt90, the evidence is that Hamilton was out of fuel, but Rosberg had some to spare.
Hamilton blew all of his – presumably by running high engine modes for half a GP. Rosberg managed to keep up without doing […]

How is this going to work in the race? Are drivers going to have to “guess” whether they’re within two seconds? Or is that part still working?

Alex commented on the post, Toro Rosso aim to recreate their Vettel-era peak after technical team shake-up 2 months, 1 week ago
As Webber gets closer to retirement, Toro Rosso becomes more and more intriguing.
In around two years’ time, the group’s executives will have to face up to difficult questions. They might have to choose between […]

Hmm, good point. ‘Wary’ it is, then.
But I’ll keep my fingers crossed that Sky make us an offer we can’t refuse.

I know the article says £10 for 24 hours. But the view from their website looks rather different.
Month 1 free
Months 2-4 for £9 each
Months 5-12 for £15 each=> £147 for the first year. That’s not too […]

Alex commented on the post, Which team has the best driver line-up for 2013? 2 months, 2 weeks ago
I think this is decided on second drivers.
Very roughly, Vettel = Alonso = Button = Raikkonen = Hamilton. However, Webber and Rosberg are quite clearly ahead of Massa (the modern version), Grosjean and Perez. […]
