I am thinking of going to this race. I was hoping that either F2 or F3 would be one of the support races. They usually back the supports heavy for new races, bit of a missed opportunity. Would have come down to costs etc, which I understand.

Has anyone heard any information or rumours around which categories will be supporting the race?

Thanks for all the fantastic information!

Sorry about the late reply, I have not logged in for a while.
The tips about the train and bus tickets will be very beneficial.
I know what you mean about Melbourne, we are spoilt for what it is as an event, the on and off track is amazing!
We are planning on staying in Japan for a total of 3 weeks, so looking forward to it very much.

I find it odd about the phone situation, I would be very keen to hear if anybody has travelled to the race recently and can provide a update on getting reception and English commentary at the track?

Also if anybody else has tips about walking around the track, track vantage point experiences or any other general tips regarding the GP weekend.

    Hi,

I am thinking of travelling from Australia to the 2017 Japanese GP.
At this stage looking at Grandstand B2 Upper for three days.
I have some questions for people that have attended previously or can answer from their knowledge of track etc.

First of all, I understand there is no English commentary, has anybody used the F1 app or any other ways to pick up English commentary at Suzuka. I plan on getting a Japanese data sim card to use while visiting, what is the mobile phone coverage like on race day. Some tracks seem to struggle with the high amount of data usage which could affect the English commentary.

Secondly, has anybody experienced sitting in B2 Upper grandstand? How do you rate the seats/view?
Is there any other sections that I should think about?
Have you used the Friday free roaming pass to check out 130R, Degner, Dunlop etc? What is it like getting around to these places on the track?

I plan on staying at Nagoya and travelling to the track each day, I take it this is what most people do?

I looked at last years schedule, there does not seem to be much in the way of support categories..What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your responses..

I am sure your seats will be reserved. Not sure what time the tickets booths open but guessing it would be just before or at the same time the gates open to public.
Here is the link to the on track schedule

Late reply, thank you for your excellent feedback Caroline, sounds like south could be a good option for the race. Still waiting for confirmation on some family members moving to Abu Dhabi before the race. Which will allow us cheap accom right next to the track. Does anybody else have any feedback regarding the West and South Grandstand? Is the main straight view from the West worth it, do you still see the exit of the corner well from W7.
People that have sat at South is the upper or lower better?
    Thanks

Thinking of going to this year’s GP, trying to decide between West and South Grandstand.. The feedback I have read is pretty even with South grandstand maybe just ahead. From your experience did you see more overtaking and action at South compared to West? Drivers may save themselves for the 2nd DRS zone? Is the view of the main straight at the West Grandstand worth it, I am guessing from here you may sacrifice some vision of cars on exit on turn 6?
Does West stand get any sun?
Also does South give you access to the marina area to check the boats out?

    Thanks

Great day at the track, loved the K Grandstand, a shame about the rain ruining the start of FP2.
Did anyone tune into the track commentary with a personal radio? What is the frequency, I could not find it for some reason???

Thanks Ed, I have read your email.
    Thanks for the information!
Is there English commentary over the weekend that we can tune into using personal am/fm radio’s?

    Was it worth while?
    Do many people go?
    Is it on this year?

Does anybody have any experiences with parking in the days leading up to the Grand Prix?
I am hiring a car from Monday until Thursday, doing some days trips to St Tropez, Cannes, Nice etc. Will be needing car parking space at night. I am happy to use the expensive secure car parks if availability is there. I have read parking can be very hard this time of year, I am thinking it would be okay until later in the week when more people arrive. Thoughts?

Counting down the days until I leave for the Monaco GP. First time, doing K grandstand on the Thursday then Ermanno Terrace on the sat/sun.
I have been trying to find a map with the access points and more general detail then just grandstand layouts. Does anybody have a map or direct me somewhere online to find one?

Looking forward to the race, but we have no coverage here in Australia. Does anybody know of a reliable live stream that I can use?

I am going to next year GP, I am looking at accommodation about 2.5km away from the track, there is a bus stop about 5mins walk away. What is the public transport like during the GP, I understand been the tight streets of Monaco it is going to be vey congested. Looking for your previous experiences.
Do they put on extra buses?
    Are taxis difficult to get?

    @Thecollaroyboys
Yeah I am very close to you in row 16, so I will see you there, good to see you decided to go! Was that where you sat last year?
With the on track commentary, I purchased 2 Nova GP 5000 eaf muff radio’s they have a antenna to tune in or a aux port to plug uhf or radoi into. I got mine form a ebay seller right before this years Australian GP, the Aus GP site also had them for sale, and some track stores did also. If you contacted Australian GP shop by email they will give you the contact details if you want to buy. They are great value for around $50 – $60!

Does anybody have any tips, good spots to view and take photos while doing a track walk around on the friday?
I am sure there are some spots not to be missed so let us know..
    Thanks
