That’s so cool! It almost looks like a real-life version of an F1 car from a PS1 racing game or something!
Knowing lego, that probably costs more than the real SF70-H
26th July 2017, 20:24 at 8:24 pm #346777StrontiumParticipantThat’s a funny little anecdote, it happens to the best of us.
We’ve all got at least one friend who has travelled for hours to a festival or something, only to realise that s/he has forgotten their ticket.
Or in my case, a friend who got to the airport and found he’d left his passport and boarding card at home, by the front door.
I wonder how Bernie would feel about this ;)
1st July 2017, 0:13 at 12:13 am #345054StrontiumParticipantIn fairness there have been times when his strategy has compromised his chances. I can’t remember which one, but there was a race last year when Perez got a podium that could have easily been Hulkenberg had the team opted to switch the strategies. And I recall another time his car gave up on him (again, I can’t remember which race and I’m wondering if I’ve got myself mixed up with somebody else).
It’s true that he has blown some chances, like even a possible win in Brazil 2012, but even then he only crashed into Hamilton because he was caught out lapping the Caterham, and he was only in his second season so there’s inexperience there. And what happened in Baku is not really much different from Hamilton’s qualifying accident last year. I don’t think he had a chance of a podium anyway to be honest. Look at how Magnussen amongst other started falling back again once Hamilton and Vettel were charging back through the pack.
And don’t forget, had Renault released him from his contract he would possibly be in the Mercedes this year. I would put it down to bad luck more. That being said, I’m a big fan of his so maybe I am biased.
19th October 2016, 22:44 at 10:44 pm #330682StrontiumParticipantIt was a lovely surprise to see today that they’re bringing it back. I felt it sort of just ended unfinished, so it will be interesting to see what they do with it.
20th May 2016, 20:22 at 8:22 pm #320431StrontiumParticipantI always have my heart in my mouth when I see them hoisting cars 10-20 metres above spectators heads in fear of that happening, it was only a matter of time if I’m honest. Another three seconds and it would have landed on all those marshals.
4th May 2016, 20:38 at 8:38 pm #319279StrontiumParticipantWith regard to his Italian nationality, is it possible that a team might ask him to change his licence (and passport?) to be Italian so that he races under the Italian flag?
There’s a lot of talk about Nico Rosberg racing under the German flag for various team-related reasons, although I take these with a pinch of salt.
15th April 2016, 23:41 at 11:41 pm #317769StrontiumParticipantI hope not, negative camber slows the cars down and unsettles them, making it worse for overtaking, but by the sound of “new challenges” it may be right.
I hope the character of the rest of the circuit isn’t ruined, it’s quite a nice track.
15th April 2016, 23:34 at 11:34 pm #317768StrontiumParticipantCan’t say I’m a massive fan of the track but at least it’s got spectators and a bit of history.
I always say, however, this is one of those races which just exists, not really loved, nor hated, it’s just there.
8th March 2016, 10:05 at 10:05 am #314789StrontiumParticipantAssuming they’re not all going to feature in every round, especially the drivers who have racing contracts.
Disappointed personally to see Ben Edwards is back, was a bit tired of his commentary, especially when he misses bits.
Is BBC radio continuing?
17th January 2016, 11:14 at 11:14 am #311553StrontiumParticipantThat’s really good, very neat! I like it :)
3rd January 2016, 20:07 at 8:07 pm #311033StrontiumParticipantTwo ideas I would be really keen to see:
1. Being able to see usernames as well as display names of people in the forums
2. A forum group for conversations regarding multiple different motorsports (such as comparisons)A few more ideas are:
3. Greater integration of the forum into the main section (this forum is absolutely amazing yet so underused)
4. (As @glynh has suggested) Something, perhaps in the Thursday morning roundup, that has the times of all the motorsport events and sessions for the weekend.Merry Christmas and happy new year everybody :)
23rd November 2015, 0:30 at 12:30 am #309370StrontiumParticipantA relative of mine used to work in an office with Peter Bonnington’s sister in law, quite close.
22nd November 2015, 23:27 at 11:27 pm #309338StrontiumParticipantThis team has a history of doing well and badly continuously up and down. 2005 and 2006 it was good, fell down between 2007 and 2009, was on the rise again between 2010 and 2013, to the point where it was the only team to challenge the dominant 2013 Red Bull at the end of the season, then has been terrible ever since.
So I definitely think they have the ability, in terms of facilities and engineers, it just comes down to how much money is pumped into the team. I wouldn’t say they have much chance of a championship but I definitely think they have potential to be back near the top.
In terms of why it has taken so long for the deal to be done, don’t forget they want prize money from Bernie, which would take time to negotiate.
21st November 2015, 21:44 at 9:44 pm #309324StrontiumParticipantIt looks very smart indeed!! I like it!
Is this the first race which will take place on a permanent facility (even if the track layout is temporary)?
@atticus-2 In all honesty I think entering and exiting the stadium in the same place would be too tight for Formula One, and probably ruin the entire flow as I imagine those corners are too tight for Formula One as well.16th November 2015, 0:23 at 12:23 am #309147StrontiumParticipantAlthough obviously the Monaco Grand Prix should really be 2-2 to Rosberg and Hamilton (what ifs don’t count), you definitely have a point!
I don’t see why he shouldn’t be. It’s important to remember that last year, and arguably this year too, he took the challenge to Lewis Hamilton, who is regarded by most as one of the best drivers at current, and some regard him as an all time great. So to have come close to Hamilton is an astonishing achievement in itself.
