  • With calendar negotiations, you have to determine what is a bargaining position and what is definitive. It looks to me for example that Malaysia is definitely not going to renew.

Singapore is likely a bargaining position, as it’s a mighty effective race, and will be free of competition in the region once Malaysia leaves. That one is about getting…[Read more]

  • Hard to call. Button got many good cars so the chances of him doing a Canada 2011 (or even Hungary 2006) was greater than Rosberg’s.

But when Rosberg did get a dominant car (which he did 3 times), even the BGP001 pales in comparison (over a season, anyway). That plus the 1 or 2 seasons of rather OK cars in the last years of the V8 era.

    Button…[Read more]

  • Hi Robert, I saw through online sources that Singapore won’t renew after the 2017 race.

As for China, I saw that the contract will go up to the 2017 race – so on that one I don’t know if 2018 and beyond will be given a green light

Also, I forgot about the French GP possibly making a return in 2018 as well

Its hard to call here. Anyone whos read my posts on this site before will know im a massive button fan, but taking out of account who i support they are both top drawer drivers, and are immediately comparable against lewis. Both held up well against hamilton, but were usually very slightly behind him but both capable of beating him. Overall id go…[Read more]

  • I think France is supposed to be returning to the F1 calendar in 2018, possibly replacing Germany, there will be a news conference about this on Monday in Paris. I know that Malaysia will not continue past 2018 but I haven’t heard of China and Singapore not renewing their races, I would like to know where you heard about these.

Everything being equal, I would say Rosberg is definitely the stronger driver over a single lap but over a race distance it could be quite close between them.

  • Hi everyone. I know the 2017 season won’t start till 26 March in Australia.

Anyway, I was wondering what the provisional 2018 calendar could look like, and I heard Singapore won’t renew beyond 2017. Also, I heard that 2017 may likely be the last year of the Chinese Grand Prix.

So I’ve created one that has the Chinese Grand Prix and one without…[Read more]

Jenson won his championship in a dominant car with 37-year old Barrichello as a team-mate. Nico won his in a dominant car with Lewis Hamilton as a team-mate. So yeah, I do rate Rosberg higher.

    Just a stat check

    Button/Rosberg

    Titles 1 – 1
    Wins 15 – 23
    Entries 308 – 206
    Podiums 50 – 57
    Poles 8 – 30
    Flap 8 – 20
    Teams 7 – 2

To some extent I agree what you wrote above although I think Rosberg was a far better driver than Jenson. Had Red Bull been a tad more decent in 2009 Vettel would’ve won the title and Jenson would have never gotten a shot at the McLaren car either, very likely his career would’ve died from that point onwards.

It isn’t indeed an easy job to do the rankings this year since no-one was perfect nor completely hopeless but I’ll try anyway. I’ll leave Vandoorne out since he only drove one race.

    23. Rio Haryanto – Wasn’t as bad as I expected, but still rather uninspiring driver, and I doubt anyone missed him after Ocon arrived.

    22. Daniil Kvyat – A season to…[Read more]

  • Depending on who gets the vacant seat at Mercedes he has a chance at the title but unless it’s either Alonso or Vettel they won’t beat Hamilton. Will be nice to see another new GP winner though.

I’m not sure if its because I’m British but I think Button just edges this. Button was hands down the best driver in mixed conditions/ slicks on a damp track but Rosberg wasn’t a standout driver in any particular category, he was just very very consistent. Both deserving champions and I’m delighted for both of them to bow out when they wanted to.
