Best Driver: Ricciardo – really played to his car’s strengths.
Worst Driver: Gutierrez (Kobayashi had a good excuse, and was more honourable than the driver he hit)
Best Team: McLaren are back – brought the best out of Magnussen and moved Button up the field brilliantly.
Worst Team: All the Ferrari-engined teams were rubbish in various ways, but it was as if Sauber weren’t there at all.
Best Overtake: Bottas & Raikkonen. Clean and determined. Passing on the Finnish baton?
Funniest Moment: Excellent audience participation when Vettel got knocked out of qualifying, and Ricciardo took pole (briefly).
Most Surprising Result: Ricciardo and Magnussen staying at the front
Least Surprising Result: 2 Lotuses stopped by the side of the track (surprisingly late in the race, mind)
Special Mention to: the McLaren jack – they should lend it to Force India and Toro Rosso.
Race Rating: 6 – some nice moments, but worrying throwbacks to the bad old days of waiting for the pit stops, too.
    ______

Best BBC/Sky commentator/presenter: Allan McNish. Needs to be on telly more, a natural in front of camera with a lot of knowledge of hybridness.
Worst BBC/Sky commentator/ presenter: David Croft. Forced mateyness and lame jokes made me mute the TV and put BBC radio on. Sky kindly showed qualifying on a free channel, but there’s no way I’m paying to listen to that fool.
Best Commentary moment: David Coulthard explaining the “hit the peeps” radio message – I wonder if any drivers have “moo” in their ear whenever it’s time to change gear.
World feed rating: 6/10 Well edited, followed the action but TURN THE ENGINE NOISE UP!

It doesn’t say what stupid question Lewis was responding to.

The hi-vis bloke makes them look even darker!
He seems to like the new colours, anyway.
If they’ve added some black to hide the nose as well, that car could look amazing.

    1) Rosberg
    2) Magnussen
    3) Fernando
    4) How many times will Ricciardo out-qualify Vettel this season? 2
    5) 8 Mercedes wins
    6) I hope it ends up in the lake in Albert Park.
    7) No, and I won’t be watching it.
    8) 7 winners
    9) 1 day
    10) Germany. Strength in numbers.

From the design images they’ve released so far, Rebellion could be going back to a white car as well. I guess white shows up the dirt and battle scars better after a 24-hour race – that’s why all the white cars are in LMP1 and not F1. There’s still time though, c’mon Williams.

Bit of an Earthdreams moment for me. Whose stupid idea was that? It doesn’t even all fit on the car – maybe the second car says:
    HE
    IGENT
    RMANCE
And for those of us watching from the usual height, it’ll look like an Audi.

Porsche have announced their driver pairings today, and it’s not bad for a number 20 driver:
    Car 14: Romain Dumas/Neel Jani/Marc Lieb
    Car 20: Timo Bernhard/Brendon Hartley/Mark Webber

There’s a new tyre rule in the feature race for 2014:
New sporting rules for the 2014 season – GP2 series
Drivers must use two different sets of tyres in the feature race (if it’s dry) – this makes it like the tyre rule in F1, and so there may be more cars running at different speeds in the race because they’re on different tyres. I guess it means, sadly, no more quick stops to change just 2 tyres, unless someone decides to stop twice in the race.

Romain Grosjean has submitted his numbers and…

    …he’s not saying.

We’ve got Williams to thank for number 27 – it would never have got anywhere near a Ferrari if Frank and Alan Jones hadn’t become World Champions out of nowhere.
Anyway, Alboreto used it for years. Tambay, Alesi. Prost and Mansell for a bit. Nothing “legendary” about it.

Maybe they should sign Charlie Kimball…

Shame there’s no prospect any more (if there ever was) of Telmex becoming title sponsor of McLaren – the whole car in light blue & white would have looked great. Perhaps their main backer will be Danish like, er, Lego – or Lurpak. A butter-coloured car would stand out, for sure.

I like it, I can never remember who’s in car 15 or 17 or whatever.
Is there a rule saying the numbers must be visible? Why not have standard ones like the sportscars, maybe illuminate them since there’s another night race now.
