I don’t see how it would have help if Alonso had lifted. If anything, he should have left more room on his left. He probably could have also stayed on the throttle a bit longer.

Pic should win for worst driver for getting in the way of Alonso. I agree about the great driving by Hamilton, Alonso, and Maldonado.
