It seems just because Mika won his titles at the dawn of 21st century, rather than in it, he remained vastly underrated in this voting. This doesn’t make much sense to me as there is no concrete boundary walls between 1999 and 2000 in F1. Maybe a bit more flexibility needed regarding when is 21st century.
I looked at the 1982 season in the first place, Nelson Piquet finished that season 10th with a win (the champion also had one win). And then in the next season, some guy named Michele Alboreto, who also drove for Ferrari, won a race in 1983 and finished that season 12th with Tyrell. I’ll go for him.
