Would non-championship races count as a ‘gimmick’?
I know DTM have now stopped but they had that ridiculous round inside the Olympiastadion.
And NASCAR has the All Star race which has a billion ‘gimmicks’ in it.
You have the constantly changing rules on what qualifies someone for the all star race, the sprint showdown race to get into the race, the fan vote to get into the race, the absolutely mental qualifying format where you had cars going into the pitlane with no speed limiter, the mandatory pit stops every 20 laps with a 10 lap showdown, the $1 million prize bonus for winning all 5 segments and probably a load more I’m missing.
All of this for no points in the season just money for the driver.23rd May 2014, 2:17 at 2:17 am #261219
Hmmm…. going to Long Beach and Monaco makes it almost feel like a reconditioned AVUS should host the Berlin round instead of a track at Tempelhof airport.
It would require some autobahn armco to be removed to allow the chicane from one lane to the other but seeing that grandstand reconditioned and filled with fans would be worth it.
Have the track run clockwise (the opposite way AVUS was run), with the start line after the final chicane and just before the nordkurve with the old pit exit being the pit entrance.
The old pit lane could be turned back into a pit lane from a carpark with a grandstand lining the outside of the nordkurve.5th February 2014, 14:44 at 2:44 pm #141504
Nice coincidence that Bahrain first night race is exactly 100 GPs since the first ever night race.5th February 2014, 0:19 at 12:19 am #141502
I figure I would bump this.
Time for a tough question.
What do Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart, Ronnie Peterson, Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet, Jacques Villeneuve, Giancarlo Fisichella, Fernando Alonso and the winner of the 2014 Bahrain grand prix all got in common?26th January 2014, 19:18 at 7:18 pm #248269
What a terrible way to end the race.
A phantom caution for no reason other than to bunch the pack/create drama and then a terrible call for “avoidable contact” when there was no contact.26th January 2014, 1:54 at 1:54 am #248261
Both drivers are awake and talking at hospital they are being further observed.25th January 2014, 19:41 at 7:41 pm #248205
Sounds even better from the Toro Rosso.29th December 2013, 19:53 at 7:53 pm #247675
Hearing reports that his condition may have deteriorated and that a statement should be written in the next hour from the hospital.
I’m hoping these reports are false.28th December 2013, 17:49 at 5:49 pm #247637
I haven’t heard or seen anything about that just some rumors DC may have got married in secret.20th December 2013, 20:19 at 8:19 pm #241964
A possible ‘leaked’ Rio track design.
Not 100% sure on how legit this article might actually be but the layout doesn’t look too bad.4th December 2013, 14:05 at 2:05 pm #163503
I’d rather have team chosen car numbers to be honest but even that would still be too gimmicky.
I just really don’t see why this is a thing that is being brought up. There are many more important issues that need to be dealt with and the current system works brilliantly.1st December 2013, 12:15 at 12:15 pm #246497
There are no testing bans for the engine manufacturers though so this is perfectly fine.
Remember Ferrari as an F1 team and Ferrari as an F1 engine maker are really 2 separate things.25th November 2013, 15:03 at 3:03 pm #22056822nd November 2013, 14:32 at 2:32 pm #213478
