Here’s a round-up of F1 news and other interesting links I’ve found today.

If you’ve spotted a hot news story, interesting new website or just something funny from the world of F1, please share your links in the comments below.

Turkey Press Conference

Flavio Briatore: "We’re not bluffing because when you have the responsibility of three or four hundred people, it’s not bluffing. These are people who go home and the next day we need to make sure that we have the money to pay their salaries. You’re not bluffing when you are putting on the line so many employees between everybody. We have to be concerned about that. We have people who have mortgages, we have people who have to send children to school. We are not bluffing. As I say, we don’t want any war, we want stability in order to have a long term Formula One engagement. This is what we want. We don’t want anything special, we just want stability, just stability."

Scalextric teams up with Brawn GP

"The agreement will see Scalextric develop a Brawn GP slot car at 1:64 and 1:32 scales. A new 1:64 set will be available in time for Christmas, while a 1:32 set will be released from early 2010."

Glock confident of new Toyota deal

"Although there remains some uncertainty about Toyota's future in F1 amid the ongoing row about entries to next year's championship, Glock has said that if the team remains in the sport then he thinks it a given he will be part of the line up."

FIA Entry for MYF1DREAM

"MYF1DREAM would like to officially announce that we placed a new entry for the FIA 2010 F1 world championships. The entry was lodged at 09:00 am Thursday 28th May 2009." Fan-backed team claims to have submitted an entry.

Could FOTA do its own series?

"The head of [Italian F1 broadcaster] RAI has already made it clear that they would want to review their contract if Ferrari were not in F1."

Wheatcroft and Gillett settle dispute

"Donington’s chances of being ready to stage next year’s British Grand Prix have been boosted after the track-owning Wheatcroft family settled its dispute with Simon Gillett’s company out of court."

IndyStar.com | Ask the Expert: IRL | The Indianapolis Star

Question: What is the likelihood of any of these guys being back in an Indy car in the near future: Hornish, Allmendinger, Montoya, Bourdais, Villeneuve. (Will, Belfast, Northern Ireland) Answer: I wouldn't think so. Maybe Bourdais. He was interested last fall.

Turkey expects ‘tough’ fight to retain GP

"I worked hard to bring F1 here and am very happy to have done so, but it's not been much appreciated. Even our prime minister would want to keep F1 here; it's one of the best tools for promoting Turkey and Istanbul. I would have preferred better circumstances, but most people are after their own self-interest rather than the interest of the country."

Auto Union D-Type Silver Arrow back on the auction block at Bonhams in August

"The example you see here, Chassis 19, was painstakingly restored to original condition, and was set to hit the auction block at Christie's two years ago until it was withdrawn at the last minute due to unanswered questions over its heritage and provenance. With the questions answered and its pedigree assured, Bonhams is now offering this extremely rare and most desirable piece of automotive history at its upcoming auction at the Quail Lodge this coming August, where it is expected to fetch in excess of $8 million. But with previous estimates having placed it closer to $12 million, it stands a real chance of breaking the $12.2 million record set by the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testarossa at the RM Auction in Maranello just last month."

If Briatore is not bluffing, why is he not falling in line with the FIA’s plans? Surely doing that would guarantee the security of all those jobs far more than trying to stare the FIA down … that’s not to say the FIA are all-powerful, but Briatore strikes me as running with scissors here. The problem is that if he trips and falls, it’s all his employees who get hurt.

    1. flav and bernie are cut from the same cloth. they would sell their own mothers.

I think his point his they would have to cut a lot more jobs to get down to budget cap levels of expenditure than under FOTA’s proposal.

      1. Yes, Keith. That`s exactly what Flav means.

    Force India Faces FOTA Expulsion

    http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-force-india-faces-fota-expulsion/

Despite earlier denying the reports, Force India has now confirmed officially that it has lodged an unconditional entry to contest the 2010 world championship.

Toyota’s John Howett, the vice-chairman of the F1 teams’ alliance FOTA, said the action is likely to result in the Silverstone based team following Williams into suspension from the body.

    1. Thanks for that – FOTA down to eight then.

In a sense it’s less surprising to see the two small independents go first.

Brawn might be obvious candidates to defect next. But would any of the manufacturers or the cash-rich Red Bull switch sides?

      1. Well, the likelihood is that FI will be suspended.
That doesn`t mean they are permanently out, though.
Despite what the BBC were saying this morning neither Williams or FI have said they are leaving FOTA. In fact, all I`ve heard is that they still support FOTA in their actions but due to the nature of their own businesses felt they had no choice but to sign.
FOTA has said it fully understands why, having no other resource than F1, teams like Williams & FI felt obliged to sign. Hence suspension & not expulsion, I`d guess.
Yes, Brawn may be a possibility to go next but we`ll have to wait & see.

      2. I`m sure you`ll have come across it, Keith, but Brawn is saying he`s sticking with FOTA.

  4. Interesting move from Brawn to get around the testing ban. Although my understanding is that at those scales the Scalextric cars will have to be pretty fast to provide any meaningful aero feedback.

      LMAO.

      LOL!

    3. LOL!
The bit that fits in the track slot has become an absolute b******r through Turn 8 this weekend ;)

  5. Why do they need so long to apply a new paint job to a slot car?

  6. I’d really like to ask Montoya why he chose Nascar instead of IndyCar. I would have thought he would be better suited to IndyCars…

    1. I see F1.com are now posting the on board pole position qualifying laps from all the races so far this year. What a shame they are so slow off the mark. There is so much more they could do if they just got their act together. For example, just see websites for IndyCar, Nascar, A1GP etc to name several. But then again we’ve had this frustrating discussion…

    2. Nascar is big money. IndyCars is almost comparable to GP2.

  7. Are we going to put together an F1FANATIC entry for next year? Maybe if we all check our pockets for loose change, we might just afford the entry fees. :-)
